Restoring Sight, Renewing Hope under "Project Punarjanam"

At LEPRA Society, we believe that everyone deserves the gift of clear vision. As part of our ongoing Project Punarjanam – Eye Care Interventions for Leprosy-Affected Persons, our dedicated team from Mahanadi Netra Chikitsalaya - LEPRA Society (MNC) reached out to Nuapali, Santarapali, and Hatibari leprosy colonies in Sambalpur district, Odisha, to provide need-based eye care services.

Many leprosy-affected persons continue to struggle silently with preventable blindness. Restoring their sight is not just about treatment it’s about restoring dignity, confidence, and independence.

During this visit, the team screened 57 residents, provided free medicines and spectacles, and referred those in need for surgical intervention. On 3rd November, in the first phase, 13 cataract eyes were successfully operated on restoring lost vision and bringing light back into people’s lives.

On the same day, 14 patients from Chhattisgarh also underwent successful surgeries at

Every restored vision is a story of renewed life.

🩺 Nerve Function Assessment – Demonstration of the Procedure

At LEPRA Society, trained health professionals, with the support of Mankind Pharma Limited, are committed to improving and preventing through early detection and routine assessments.

The Nerve Function Assessment (NFA) is a vital clinical procedure that helps identify early nerve damage before any visible deformities appear. It is conducted regularly as part of patient evaluation and follow-ups to monitor progress during and after treatment.

This demonstration took place at Vijayanagaram Referral Center, where health workers performed both sensory and motor nerve assessments, checking touch, pain sensation, and muscle strength using simple clinical tools a key step in and .

Regular NFA is crucial because leprosy primarily affects peripheral nerves, leading to loss of sensation, muscle weakness, and potential disabilities if left untreated. Through early detection, NFA helps:

Identify nerve damage at an early, reversible stage

Prevent deformities of the hands, feet, and eyes

Guide timely initiation or modification of treatment

Preserve mobility, independence, and dignity for persons affected by leprosy

🙏 A heartfelt thank you to Mankind Pharma Limited for their continued partnership in strengthening initiatives and enabling our mission to restore , , and .

World Handwashing Day
Clean Hands – Stronger Health, Greater Dignity 💧✋

Handwashing with soap isn’t just a habit it’s a powerful shield against infection and disease.
In our work across Leprosy, TB, Eye Care, and Lymphatic Filariasis (LF), clean hands play a life-changing role 👇

💠 Leprosy:
Proper hand hygiene reduces bacterial transmission, preventing new infections and supporting wound care for those affected.

💠 Tuberculosis (TB):
Clean hands help reduce the spread of germs that cause respiratory infections, protecting families and communities.

💠 Eye Care:
Regular handwashing prevents eye infections like conjunctivitis and trachoma a major cause of preventable blindness.

💠 Lymphatic Filariasis (LF):
Clean hands and hygienic care of wounds prevent secondary infections and disability among people affected by LF.

Every wash is an act of protection, dignity, and compassion.
Let’s commit to clean hands for healthier lives and stronger communities.

We believe that true healing begins with the mind. Mental health is not just care it’s compassion, connection, and confidence to rebuild one’s life.

Through the SAMARTH Project, we’re empowering communities affected by leprosy and lymphatic filariasis. SAMARTH nurtures emotional well-being, peer support, and inclusion helping individuals rediscover self-worth and independence.

By integrating mental health into NTD care, SAMARTH has grown into a community-led movement that strengthens health systems and restores dignity. It stands as a model of how empathy, awareness, and collective action can transform lives.

This World Mental Health Day, we celebrate every act of courage, every shared story, and every step toward healing. Because mental health is not a privilege it’s a right.

Restoring Dignity Through Innovation

For persons affected by leprosy, even simple daily activities like holding a spoon or eating independently can become difficult due to hand deformities and loss of grip strength.

At , we believe that dignity begins with independence.
Our hand utensil holder, a small yet powerful assistive device, is designed to help individuals with reduced hand function eat comfortably and independently.

This adaptive aid:

Restores the ability to eat without assistance

Reduces dependency on caregivers

Enhances self-confidence and quality of life

A simple device, but a big step toward inclusion, empowerment, and human dignity.

Because innovation isn’t just about technology it’s about transforming lives.

A special thank you to Mankind Pharma Limited for supporting this cause and helping us make everyday life more accessible for everyone.
