LEPRA Society visited Borigaon village, , to strengthen grassroots action under the SHAKTHI Project.

As part of the visit, door-to-door community screening was demonstrated to support early identification of people in need of care. Field-level guidance was also provided on accurate data entry using the Kobo application, ensuring quality and consistency in community health reporting.

This initiative contributes to building the capacity of frontline health workers and strengthening last-mile healthcare delivery.

LEPRA Society gratefully acknowledges the Azim Premji Foundation for supporting this important cause.

Republic Day 2026 | Freedom Means No One Is Left Behind

On 26 January, we celebrate the day India became a Republic guided by a Constitution that promises equality, dignity, and justice for all.

Yet for many affected by leprosy and lymphatic filariasis, freedom is still incomplete due to disease, disability, and stigma.

At LEPRA Society, we work to turn constitutional values into real change through early diagnosis, treatment, disability prevention, and livelihood support.

This Republic Day, honour our Constitution by standing with the most vulnerable.
Your support can restore health, dignity, and hope.

When 38-year-old Pawan began showing signs of leprosy, he was afraid of being judged and excluded from his community so he hid his condition, even from his family. Pawan was wary of the prejudice associated with the disease and avoided seeking medical help, hoping the symptoms would go away on their own.

Ahead of World Leprosy Day, we share Pawan's message of hope:

“When I first learned I had leprosy, I was scared. But with counselling and treatment, I’m healthy again. I want my village to know that early treatment can change lives.”

Strengthening awareness at the grassroots. Empowering communities with knowledge.

Our team conducted a field visit at Kadamguda Kanga Sub-Centre, , with the support of ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers. The visit included an ACD (Active Case Detection) survey and old case follow-ups, ensuring continuity of care and early identification of new cases at the community level.

Flash card demonstrations played a vital role in spreading awareness by helping community members clearly understand the early signs of leprosy, the importance of timely treatment, and the fact that leprosy is completely curable. These simple yet effective IEC tools help break myths, reduce stigma, and encourage people to seek care without fear.

Together with community health workers, we continue our efforts towards early detection, dignity, and stigma-free communities.
