A Story of Resilience and Hope: The Journey Behind the Foundation for Maraoni Orphans & Destitute Upliftment
From a childhood marked by unspeakable loss to a mission dedicated to transforming lives, A.S. Graceson Marao’s journey is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the power of compassion.
Born into a Christian family in Manipur, India, Graceson’s life took a tragic turn right after his birth. He lost his mother moments after he was born, and his father was tragically killed during the infamous "Operation Bluebird" in 1987. Left orphaned at a tender age, Graceson faced a future that seemed bleak and uncertain.
But hope found him through a lovelly, beautiful and kind heart neighbor, Mrs. Koduru Sosii and Mrs. Phikamla of Khongdei Khuman village in Manipur, who raised him as one of their own. Despite his painful beginnings, Graceson grew up with a deep understanding of hardship, shaping his perspective on life and instilling in him an unshakable empathy for others.
As he grew older, the weight of his past turned into a purpose. Graceson began reflecting on the lives of countless children who, like him, were left vulnerable, destitute, and without hope. Fueled by his education and a humble resolve, he founded the Foundation for Maraoni Orphans & Destitute Upliftment in 2015.
This foundation isn’t just an organization—it’s Graceson’s vision of a brighter future for vulnerable children, broken families, struggling farmers, and disadvantaged youth. It’s a beacon of hope, born from pain, for those who’ve endured the unimaginable.
Graceson often shares his story, not for pity, but to inspire. "I was broken, but I chose to rise—for myself and for others. I don’t want any child to feel the hopelessness I once did," he says.
Today, the foundation, located in Viewland Colony, Makhrelui, Senapati at Manipur in India, stands as a testament to resilience and the transformative power of kindness. It reminds us that even in the darkest moments, light can emerge—and change the lives of many.
