उमर अल-मुख्तार मुअम्मद बिन फराह अल-मनिफ़ी ( अरबी : عُمَر الْمُخْتَار مُحَمَّد بِن فَرْحَات الْمَن) । ِفِي ; 20 अगस्त 1858 - 16 सितंबर 1931), जिसे रेगिस्तान का शेर कहा जाता है , औपनिवेशिक इटालियंस के बीच म्निफा के मटारी के रूप में जाना जाता है , [ 4 ] एक लीबियाई क्रांतिकारी और इमाम थे जिन्होंने लीबिया के इतालवी उपनिवेशीकरण के खिलाफ, सेनुसिड्स के तहत साइरेनिका (वर्तमान में पूर्वी लीबिया ) में मूल प्रतिरोध का नेतृत्व किया था । शिक्षक से जनरल बने उमर सेनुसी आंदोलन के एक प्रमुख व्यक्ति थे और उन्हें लीबिया का राष्ट्रीय नायक और अरब और इस्लामी दुनिया में प्रतिरोध का प्रतीक माना जाता है। 1911 से शुरू होकर, उन्होंने लीबिया के प्रतिरोध आंदोलन का आयोजन और नेतृत्व किया। प्रथम और द्वितीय इटालो-सेनुसी युद्धों के दौरान इतालवी औपनिवेशिक साम्राज्य । बाहरी तौर पर, उन्होंने चाड के फ्रांसीसी उपनिवेशीकरण और मिस्र पर ब्रिटिश कब्जे के खिलाफ भी लड़ाई लड़ी । [ ५ ] कई प्रयासों के बाद, इतालवी सशस्त्र बलों ने स्लोंटा के पास अल-मुख्तार पर कब्जा करने में कामयाबी हासिल की जब वे लीबियाई औपनिवेशिक सैनिकों द्वारा युद्ध में घायल हो गए थे , और आत्मसमर्पण करने से इनकार करने पर 1931 में उन्हें फांसी दे दी गई थी

Omar al-Mukhtar was a member of Senussi, a Muslim movement which fought the European colonization in North Africa. He resisted courageously for years to the Italian occupation of Libya, and paid his resistance with his life. For this reason is regarded as national hero in Libya.
