Today, 27th September 2025, the Office of the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, in collaboration with the State Resource Centre on Disability Affairs, Composite Regional Centre Shillong, and the Meghalaya Deaf Association, celebrated the International Day of the Deaf 2025. The event was graced by the Hon’ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Shri Wailadmiki Shylla, along with other dignitaries.

The celebrations featured inter-school competitions, where winners were honoured with prizes and mementos. The Secretary of the Meghalaya Deaf Association urged the Government to introduce sign language as a subject in schools, stressing the need for stronger inclusion.

Motivational speaker Ferdinand Lyndoh, owner of Ekanbha, inspired the gathering with his message:

“We all have challenges, we all have dreams—but together we can overcome them.”

The Hon’ble Minister also distributed hearing aids to beneficiaries and emphasized that interpreters and sign language learning must go hand in hand for true empowerment.

The event concluded with vibrant student performances, proving that rhythm and joy can transcend barriers.

“Woa oh oh oh oh!”
When the Eastern Brook Band sang it, the children at Jyoti Sroat Inclusive School echoed it back—voices rising together, breaking barriers.

That echo wasn’t just music—it was unity, strength, and the spirit of inclusion reverberating through the Festival of Inclusion.

Let this anthem remind us: when one voice calls, and many join, a movement is born.

LIVE AT THE FESTIVAL OF INCLUSION
The Eastern Brook Band set the stage alight at Jyoti Sroat Inclusive School, Bethany Society, performing the Disability Anthem Song – a powerful celebration of unity and inclusion.

This anthem, created for persons with disabilities in Meghalaya, has become more than just music.
It is a voice for the disability movement, carrying a message of dignity, rights, and empowerment across communities.

Through rhythm and harmony, it reminds us that inclusion is not just an idea—it’s a movement.

From classrooms to real-world impact!

Meet Ajay H, an engineering student from Kerala, who along with his team created a Talk-to-Write AI device that turns speech into handwritten text.
