An Usha Uthup Cafe with her retro number is nothing short of a superlative experience. This wonder has been singing for 57 years and though she can no longer stand and sing, her voice comes deep down from the pit of her stomach. Her energy, her sense of humour and zest for life is infectious. She has everyone in the audience, young and old, taping and singing with her. She is truly an icon, a legend and a pillar of Kolkata’s music heritage.

Finally finished by third piece of the rose series. This last one was really difficult coz the sections were excruciatingly small and sometimes the numbers weren’t visible even with a magnifying glass! So, completing this one gave me a huge sense of achievement. I’m sharing the stages the painting went through- from a sketch to the final painting. I’m also sharing the earlier two I completed, for comparison.

My doll is going places. A short film which Sehmat produced is being screened at the Atlanta India Film Festival. At the gala she met Shishir Sharma who played Alia Bhat’s father-in-law in Raazi, and Rizwan Manji of Outsourced and Schitt’s Creek fame. She is seen here with the writer of the short film, ‘Louis’. It has already been screened in Halifax and is going to be screened in Vancouver too. So proud of you my baby!!

I came across this beautiful canvas with a DIY kit which I just loved working on. Just follow the numbers and slowly a beautiful picture emerges. I found it extremely therapeutic, especially when I was stressed. Sitting with the paints and filling in the shapes brought immense calm. In a way it felt like those colouring books we filled in as children. I’m sharing my images of it as the picture slowly came to life. Thank you Art Therapy, I loved it.
