🌸 Ovarian Cancer Awareness
🔍 What is Ovarian Cancer?
The ovaries are two small organs in a woman’s body that make eggs and hormones.
Ovarian cancer happens when abnormal cells in the o***y grow uncontrollably and form a tumor.
⚠️ Symptoms (often vague and ignored in early stages)
Many symptoms are common to other everyday problems, which is why ovarian cancer is often detected late.
Look out for these if they persist for weeks:
Bloating or swelling in the abdomen
Feeling full quickly while eating
Persistent stomach pain or pelvic pain
Frequent or urgent need to urinate
Changes in bowel habits (constipation)
Unexplained weight loss or fatigue
🧪 Screening & Detection
Unlike breast or cervical cancer, there is no simple routine screening test for ovarian cancer yet.
Ultrasound and a blood test called CA-125 may be used if symptoms are suspicious, but they are not reliable for general screening.
Regular gynecological check-ups are important, especially for women with:
Family history of ovarian or breast cancer
Known genetic risk (BRCA1/BRCA2 mutations)
💊 Treatment (depends on stage of cancer)
Surgery: Removal of the tumor, and sometimes ovaries, uterus, or fallopian tubes.
Chemotherapy: Medicines to kill remaining cancer cells.
Targeted therapy / Immunotherapy: Newer treatments that work against specific cancer pathways.
🌼 Key Awareness Messages
Know the symptoms and don’t ignore persistent abdominal changes.
Early detection saves lives – consult a doctor if you have risk factors or ongoing symptoms.
Healthy lifestyle (balanced diet, exercise, avoiding smoking) lowers general cancer risk.
Family history matters – if close relatives had breast/ovarian cancer, genetic counseling is helpful.
