MRI fear ?
Have you ever gone for a MRI Scan but came out for fear of the loud sound while MRI scanning while you are put in a narrow tunnel ? This is called Claustrophobia in medical terminology.

You need not worry any more, as Silchar has a Silent MRI at BIOMED POLYCLINIC LLP. A silent MRI does not really mean there would be no noise, rather the noise level would be in a bearable limit, that is done by use of Japanese Technology of Canon called “Pianissimo”. The explanation is attached. Apart from reduction of noise level the tunnel bore diameter is also wider, making the patient more comfortable an atmosphere while scanning is in progress and you do not feel getting trapped in the tunnel. The third advantage with this MRI instrument is that the scan time is remarkably reduced, patient does not have to stay inside the MRI for 30 minutes for a brain scan, it will be 15 minutes and in some cases a shorter scan protocol of 10 minutes can also be preferred but the images would be reduced.

This instrument is the fastest scanning 1.5 Tesla MRI presently in whole of Eastern India and only the 6th Silent MRI in India and Silchar is the 6th Town/ City in India to have a Silent MRI, whereas Metro Cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata even does not have a silent MRI.

BIOMED DIAGNOSTIC CENTRE is now BIOMED POLYCLINIC LLP. We have now fully shifted to our own premises at BIOMED SQUARE, Rangirkhari Point, Silchar since last night, our last leg of instruments have been fully shifted to the new location. We hope we can now deliver better services under one roof with an area of 14,000 sq feet, fully air conditioned with Chiller Plant with a Stretcher carrying lift that can accommodate 15 persons, excluding around 2500sq ft. under ground parking, which will be operational very soon. We will now start Pathology, Microbiology under Agilus Diagnostics straight after Durga Puja, already started Digital Xray, OPG, CBCT, Dexascan, CT Scan (excluding CT Cardiac Angiography), ECG & Sonography with 3 machines for 2 doctors to accomodate more patients. We are yet to start MRI, Endoscopy & Colonoscopy, will keep you intimated as and when these facilities starts, presently MRI application is under process.

Do you know BIOMED has followed a no China Policy only because of a national patriotic feeling. We have not installed any equipment that is sourced out of China. We look forward to a day when we can produce medical equipments to source to other countries, but these are early days.

Do you know the most advantage of BIOMED’s new 160 Slice CT Scan - it can do contrast enhanced study of Neck, Thorax, Abdomen at one go taking just 15 seconds and just 15 rotations, ie - covering an area of 160 Slices x 0.5 mm x 15 rotations = 1200 mm/ 120 cms (47.24 inches). All these are calculated values and true. Always remember, patient will only receive at max 30-32 Xray exposures, whereas in a 16 Slice CT scan patient would be exposed to at least 600 Xray exposures and all three parts would have to be done separately and at least on 2 different days with at least 7-10 days apart.

Some 3D reconstruction images on BIOMED’s new 160 Slice CT Scan, Make & Model - Canon Aquilion Prime SP following a normal CT Scan Abdomen Scan, not possible on other CT Machines. Mind you such images are available without using the Pressure Injector for Contrast study. Just imagine how good it would be to use the Dual Head pressure injector for Angiography, wait for our video images of Cardiac Angiography.

Such images are only possible by having equipment that has the capacity to take thinner cut images and cover the required field of scanning in the shortest possible time, before the injection is flushed out of arterial and venous circulation. BIOMED CT Scan is the fastest scanner in India and so least exposure to Xray radiation.

Do you know that a a CECT Scan of Abdomen at BIOMED on 160 Slice CT takes just 10 seconds to complete the full helical scan, using just 6-7 rotations (ie - just 6-7 radiation doses). So an abdomen scan will just get 7x2 = 14 Xray exposures for plain and contrast study. It will cover the whole abdomen length = 0.5 mm thickness cut x 160 slices x 7 rotations = 560 mm/ 56 cms to cover the whole abdomen.

In contrast if you are doing the same scan on a 16 Slice CT the patient will receive 20 times more radiation exposures ie - at least 280 Xray exposures instead of just 14 Xray exposures for BIOMED CT Scan, as their slice thickness is 1.0 mm instead of 0.5 mm thickness for Canon CT.

So please think of the Xray exposures to prefer our CT Scan. In other words a 16 Slice CT can take 16 images in one rotation, taking pictures of slice thickness of 1.0 mm to cover an area of just 16 mm (1.0 x 16) whereas BIOMED CT of 160 Slice will cover an area of 80 mm (0.5 mm x 160) in one rotation, it covers 16 times more area then a 16 Slice with one Xray exposure, leave aside the speed of rotation of our 160 Slice, which is the fastest in the world presently.

So kindly note the reduction of radiation dose offered by our scanner at BIOMED, and the potential risk it poses for future cancer risks. CT Scans should be reserved for last resort for diagnosis of an ailment, always consult a doctor before a scan.

Canon CT Scan is know world wide for high end CT Scans and has max installations in Europe and USA only for the speed and less radiation, it includes the Toshiba installations as Toshiba is now owned by Canon.
