***dePreventionDay
It is a good feeling when I see people (even who are not mental health professionals) sharing some posts/videos today about su***de detection and prevention…shows that mental health awareness has improved. We do talk about warning signs of su***de,how to give support, how to combat stigma regarding this and so on…
However,as a mental health professional and as someone who does meet so many people who are depressed, have had suicidal thoughts,or made some attempts to end everything being hopeless…the one thing that strikes me is that though we keep telling people to come and speak out,to share what is troubling them,to express their feelings to doctors or their near and dear ones….the disabling thing about DEPRESSION is how it paralyses you! There are many patients who just enter my clinic and go numb, or start crying profusely, or don’t even know where to start from,or what to actually say…😔
Severe depression often makes you so dull and inhibited,so hateful sometimes about your own self…gathering the courage to speak out becomes so so difficult.🫥
This post is an APPRECIATION post…for all those who have had the courage to start seeking help,to all those who have cried infront of your Psychiatrist, gone blank, felt insignificant, hopeless, lost…and still believed…that a visit to the Psychiatrist may help!🙌🏻
To all those people, who came with lost hopes, suicidal thoughts to me till now…or the ones whom I’ll keep seeing again…I hope God gives me that much ability that you never leave my clinic without a ray of hope…that after we meet, may I always be able to show you how special and precious you are…no matter how uncontrollable life seems…🙃
Its not easy always instilling hope into emptiness..and sometimes we as professionals feel helpless too…I wish God blesses everyone with courage and strength, and with love for oneself above all. May our service as mental health professionals keep saving lives..in all the best possible ways as much as we can.🙏
Take care♥️
