In a disheartening turn of events yesterday, the Phansidewa electricity department came under fire for its gross mismanagement and the uncooperative behavior of its employees and station master. The officer in charge, despite being aware of the inadequate load capacity of the local transformer, sanctioned a high-budget wedding function in front of the Rangapani Medica Cancer Hospital. The event consumed electricity on par with a steel manufacturing plant, leading to the transformer burning out due to excessive load in the evening.
The resultant power outage affected the entire area, and the Phansidewa electricity department failed to resolve the issue, ceasing to respond to further calls. The situation was particularly dire for patients residing near the hospital for treatment, who had to endure the outage in the scorching summer heat. Some patients’ conditions deteriorated to the point where they had to be admitted to the hospital or relocated to a place with electricity.
In response to the electricity department’s lack of action, locals and patients’ families took to the streets, blocking roads in protest. However, no officials arrived to address the issue. Reports also suggest that the area’s Panchayat was seen participating in the wedding function and dining with his family, showing little regard for the plight of the locals.
The following day, electricity officials replaced the transformer but maintained the same load capacity, setting the stage for potential future problems. The locals are understandably upset with the officials, who seem to have learned nothing from this incident. It is indeed disheartening to witness such a situation.
