Found in 1983, Dr. Meghbaran Mukherjee established the " Durgapada Memorial Clinic & Nursing Home" to fulfill both his professional and personal promise. Hence, this hospital is a symbol of two things: a doctor's ethical responsibility of treating patients irrespective of their class, creed, gender and religion and a son's promise to his late father to run the nursing home as a place of care and n
ot a profit making institution. In spite of several degrees from England and lucrative job offers in the metropolitan cities in India and abroad, Dr. M.B. Mukherjee chose to return to Siliguri and serve the people in need. He established the Durgapada Memorial Clinic & Nursing Home as a gynecological and obstetrics unit and his wife Mrs. In his 25 years of service Dr. M.B.Mukherjee along with his wife treated the people of North Bengal, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan with minimal fees and sometimes for free. He never aspired for name or fame and quietly performed his job with sincerity, poise and dedication. Dr. Meghbaran Mukherjee's untimely death brought about a temporary lull in the clinic, but his son Dr. Mainak Mukherjee ( Dental Surgeon from the renowned College of Dental Sciences, Manipal ) has taken up the cause and is following his father's footsteps. After his graduation from Manipal and after training at renowned dental facilities in Manipal and Kolkata, Dr. Mainak returned to Siliguri to fulfill his father's wish. In a few years, Dr. Mainak Mukherjee has made a name for himself. He is a well established Dental Surgeon and has set up his own clinic, the " Mukherjee Dental Clinic and Day-care Centre". He continues to render voluntary medical treatment to the people in need. In 2016, Dr. Mainak Mukherjee reopened the Durgapada Memorial Clinic & Nursing Home with a new team and a new name "Mukherjee Hospital", but the goal is the same. This time he is joined by his wife Dr. Ritika Banerjee Mukherjee (Dental Surgeon), who shares equal responsibility and is also the deputy director of this hospital. The motto of the hospital " To Care is to Cure" is carefully chosen as to carry the legacy of Dr. M.B.Mukherjee further. The hospital is focussed on Head and Neck diseases, Trauma, Neuro and Spine diseases and treatment as needed. A team of qualified doctors and nurses runs the facility.
