Lymphedema is a condition in which protein rich fluid accumulates in the limbs causing swelling and reduced function of the affected limb. This happens when lymphnodes are removed surgically or get damaged due to Illness. Physiotherapy can help to reduce symptom experience and improve the quality of life.

What is Osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis means “porous bone.” If you
look at healthy bone under a microscope,
you will see that parts of it look like a
honeycomb.

If you have osteoporosis, the
holes and spaces in the honeycomb are
much bigger than they are in healthy
bone.

This means your bones have lost
density or mass and that the structure of
your bone tissue has become abnormal.
As your bones become less dense, they
also become weak and fragile.

Exercise recommendations

Children should undertake 60 minutes of
moderate-intensity physical activity each
day.

Adults should be doing 30 minutes of
moderate-intensity physical activity at
least five days a week (or 150 minutes or
more in total). They should also undertake
physical activity to improve muscle
strength on at least two days a week.

Older adults (over the age of 65) who are
at risk of falls should also incorporate
specific exercises to improve balance and
co-ordination on at least two days a week
and reduce the amount of time spent
being sedentary (sitting) for extended
periods.
