During our conversation with Dr. Neeraj Sanduja, we explored several important factors that impact eye health, but one of the most common questions was: why do so many people notice sudden changes in their vision after the age of 40?
Dr. Neeraj explains that this is due to the crystalline lens in our eyes, which naturally adjusts its shape to focus on objects at different distances. As we age, the lens’s flexibility diminishes, making it harder to focus, especially on nearby objects. This process, known as presbyopia, is a normal part of aging. The timing can vary—some may experience these changes in their early 40s, while others might not notice issues until their 50s.
To maintain clear and healthy vision, it’s important to schedule regular eye checkups, especially after the age of 40, when the risk of age-related eye conditions increases.
