With this honor, I am now entitled to use the designation “FSCAI.”
The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) is the only professional medical society in the United States dedicated exclusively to interventional cardiology. It plays a vital role by providing clinical guidelines, education, professional representation, research opportunities, and formal recognition to its members.

Glad to Share a Milestone in Cardiac Care!

We are delighted to announce that we successfully performed the first MICRA leadless pacemaker implantation of our region at SN Super Speciality Hospital.

Our patient, 86-year-old gentleman with diabetes, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease (CKD) on maintenance hemodialysis, presented with multiple episodes of syncope. ECG evaluation revealed complete heart block, with normal potassium levels.

Given his AV fistula on the left side and his reluctance to have a conventional pacemaker on the right and also concerns about infection risk, he opted for MICRA—the world’s smallest leadless pacemaker. Unlike traditional pacemakers, MICRA is directly implanted into the right ventricle (RV) via the femoral vein, eliminating the need for leads and reducing infection risk significantly.

MICRA is secured within the RV using four tines, allowing immediate pacing. It is MRI-compatible and has an impressive battery life of 12–15 years, offering a durable and safe solution for our high-risk patient.

This successful implantation marks a significant step forward in providing advanced, minimally invasive cardiac care to our patients.
