Perimenopause and iron depletion
Most women miss this:-👇🏼
Perimenopause commonly reduces stomach acid, slows digestion and increases gut stress.
That’s why oral iron can cause:-
👉🏼bloating
👉🏼nausea
👉🏼constipation
👉🏼oxidative stress
👉🏼sibo or h. Pylori
And barely absorbs
IRON
Not all low iron is the same- you need a full iron panel to look for the type of dysfunction going on:-
1. True iron deficiency
⬇️ ferritin ⬇️ iron ⬇️ saturation ⬇️ TIBC
2. Low ferritin only
⬇️ ferritin but iron markers normal (usually due to low biotin or low stomach acid)
3. Anemia
Ferritin normal/ high but iron and saturation low (inflammation traps iron)
I recommend IRON PATCHES (bypass the gut and does not negatively impact digestion)
For better absorption of iron and storage to ferritin:- Lactoferrin (improves absorption safely) Biotin (required to convert iron to ferritin) Stomach acid support (HCL) Vit c with meals.
Bottom line for perimenopause check
