Dr. Abdul Ahad Guru was born into a business family from Jagir, a small hamlet outside the town of Sopore.He spent all his childhood in sopore town mostly around Doabgah mazbugh & jagir hamlet. His father, the late Haji Abdul Satar Guru, educated himself despite leaving school at an early age. While maintaining his timber business, he spent the majority of his time reading the scholarly literature of Rumi, Hafez, Ghazali and Iqbal.
Dr. Abdul Ahad Guru, a graduate of All India Institute of Medical Sciences was the first Kashmiri who had specialized in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. He was also the first Kashmiri to perform open-heart surgery. Dr. Guru was also on board of the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar. Besides, he was also a member of the governing council of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front.
He was killed by unknown gunman at Buchpora Srinagar on Ist April 1993

Meet the Srinagar doctors behind 'Apparel for Poor

JAMMU & KASHMIR: With the onset of winter in Kashmir, a group of doctors have moved beyond their official brief and launched an initiative “Apparel for Poor” to help the needy and downtrodden people fight the intense and bone-chilling cold this winter.

The group of doctors and medical students is led by Dr Mohammad Salim Khan, Professor and Head of Department (HOD) Community Medicine Government Medical College, Srinagar. Dr Mohammad Salim Khan said the MBBS students posted in community medicine have to visit people for socio-clinic profile as part of their MBBS curriculum. During these visits, these medical students came across poor and needy people, who could not afford winter clothing.

He said the doctors and medical students decided to help the deserving families survive the harsh winter.
In order to reach out to the maximum families in need of winter clothing, the doctors and medical students with the help of ASHA workers identify the people and families, who need help in the form of warm clothes during the winter.

Doda girl cracks NET exam in Economics

Doda, Nov 12: Making the hilly Doda District proud, Zuha Tabassum, daughter of Muzhir Ul Haq Munshi and Nazeema Begum, resident of Mohalla Munshi Doda, District Doda has successfully qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) exams in Economics, the result of which was declared by the University Grants Commission (UGC) recently.

Zuha did her Masters in Economics from the University of Jammu in 2021 with good percent marks.

Talking to media, enthusiastic Zuha Tabassum first thanked Allah for her success and secondly she attributed her success to her parents and teachers who guided her time to time, adding that success is all about your hard work, determination, patience, consistency and sacrifice, she said.

While narrating her success mantra, Zuha said that consistent studies and hardwork are the only ways to get success in life.

Further she said girls should come forward and should focus on their studies so that they can make proud their parents and place as well. She further told that she wants to serve the society by excelling in the field of education.

The locals of the area have congratulated the student on her success, say that they are very happy with the success of the Zuha Tabassum for qualifying this prestigious examination and wished her many more success in future.

Harud in kashmir

These crispy red apples made to stop on my way to Srinagar .
I wanted to pluck a bunch but these low rates & highway closure has already added misery to the Apple growers & moreover it's prohibited in Islam .
However then i picked about 5 apples from the ground .
There were some local elders watching me from nearby orchard .when they saw me picking apples from ground They offered me 2 dozens of apples different varieties of apples . They were so happy to share there crops with me .
Thats what my kashmir is known for, HOSPITALITY.
