HelpAge India in collaboration with Department of Community Medicine, Govt. Medical College Srinagar, Block Hazratbal conducted Mental Health Workshop at UPHC Nishat.
In an aim to create awareness about mental health issues, the HelpAge India in collaboration with Department of Community Medicine, Govt. Medical College Srinagar, Block Hazratbal on Thursday (29.05.2025) held a comprehensive mental health session with paramedics and workers of various health institutions of Block Hazratbal. The workshop aimed to sensitize health department employees, including Asha workers, ANMs, doctors and paramedics, was organized at Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) Nishat on Thursday. The day-long workshop attended by prominent experts from the medical field, including psychiatrists, clinical psychologists saw a fruitful exchange of ideas.
Among the prominent experts were Prof. (Dr.) S. Mohammad Salim Khan, Head, Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College Srinagar, Dr Yuman Kawoosa, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Govt. Medical College Srinagar, Dr Mohammad Muzaffar Khan, Clinical Psychologist and the Director of J&K Police drug de-addiction center, Srinagar.
Prof. (Dr.) S. Mohammad Salim Khan stressed on the mental Health of the employees, stating that their overall mental well-being can help them offer their services to the patients in a far better way. Prof. (Dr.) S. Mohammad Salim Khan, who was the guest of honour, also praised HelpAge India for holding seminar on such an important topic & for other Services regarding the benefit of old age people aimed at improving their quality of life. In her speech, Dr Yuman Kawoosa spoke at length on the causes and treatment for diseases like dementia and depression. She also highlighted upon the role and support of families and friends for the patients suffering with dementia or depression. The Director of J&K Police drug de-addiction center, Srinagar, Dr Mohammad Muzaffar Khan briefed the participants on sensitive topics like anxiety, mood disorders besides the importance of Mental Health of Health workers. Dr. Zeenat Farooq, Incharge Block Medical Officer Block Hazratbal concluded the event and appreciated HelpAge India for conducting the said workshop.
