As part of the Training Module on Preclinical Models for Translational Research in Biomedical Sciences, sponsored by the Department of Health Research–Indian Council of Medical Research (DHR–ICMR), and organized by the Division of Veterinary Biochemistry, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), a team of faculty members and 33 Research scholars undertook an academic visit to Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine Srinagar (RRIUM Srinagar).
During the visit, the team explored the Botany Museum, where Mr. Tariq Ahmed Butt, Research Officer (Botany), delivered an insightful talk on herbal medicinal plants used in Unani medicine, highlighting their therapeutic relevance and traditional knowledge base.
The participants also visited the Phytochemical Laboratory, where Dr. Younis, Research Officer (Chemistry), explained the process of standardization of medicinal plants, emphasizing quality control, phytochemical evaluation, and their role in evidence-based medicine.
In the Biochemistry Laboratory, Dr. Towseef, Research Officer (Biochemistry), provided a practical overview of biochemical analyzers, elucidated their application in research, and discussed the methodology of converting clinical (human) doses into animal doses for preclinical studies.
The visit served as a valuable platform for academic exchange, interdisciplinary learning, and integration of traditional medicine with modern biomedical research, reinforcing the importance of translational approaches in healthcare.
