How to take care of Braces .
1. Brush carefully (after every meal if possible)
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Brush at an angle to clean around brackets and wires, not just the tooth surface. Take your time—about 2 minutes.
2. Floss every day
It’s harder with braces, but important. Use floss threaders or special orthodontic floss to get between teeth and under the wire.
3. Use mouthwash
An antibacterial or fluoride mouthwash helps prevent cavities and keeps your gums healthy.
4. Watch what you eat
Avoid foods that can break or stick to braces:
Sticky (gum, caramel)
Hard (nuts, ice, hard candy)
Crunchy (chips, popcorn kernels)
Cut foods like apples or carrots into small pieces instead of biting into them.
5. Protect your braces
If you play sports, wear a mouthguard to prevent injury or damage.
6. Handle discomfort properly
Mild pain is normal after adjustments. Use orthodontic wax on poking wires and take pain relief if needed (ask your dentist/orthodontist).
7. Don’t skip appointments
Regular check-ups are important to adjust your braces and keep treatment on track.
8. Check for problems
If a bracket breaks or a wire pokes, contact your orthodontist—don’t ignore it.
