Regarding the Shameful Assault on a Resident in SMHS EmergencyWe, the Resident Doctors of Government Medical College Srinagar, register our strongest and unequivocal condemnation of the brutal assault on our colleague in the Emergency Department of SMHS Hospital. This is not just an assault on one individual—it is an assault on the dignity of every doctor who serves this system with dedication and compassion. It is an attack on the entire medical fraternity that continues to work in suffocating conditions, round the clock, with minimal protection and zero tolerance from the public. The Emergency Department is a war zone. We treat the sickest of patients, make life-saving decisions under pressure, and deal with chaos daily. And yet, despite giving our blood, sweat, and sanity to the system, we are repaid with blows, abuse, and humiliation.Let it be clear: this violence is not acceptable, not justifiable, and will not be tolerated. We demand: • Immediate arrest of the culprits, with non-bailable charges under the applicable laws protecting healthcare workers. • Deployment of adequate and trained security personnel in all critical care areas of the hospital, especially in Emergency and ICU zones. • Strict enforcement of one-attendant policy, and legal action against any violators. • Institutional support and legal backing for any resident who is assaulted during duty.It is tragic that while the rest of the world celebrates its doctors, here in Kashmir, we fight for the right to simply work without fear of being attacked. We want to remind the administration:Your silence will be taken as complicity. Your inaction will breed more violence.Today it is our colleague. Tomorrow, it could be anyone. The time for lip service is over.We demand action. And we demand it now.Resident Doctors AssociationGovernment Medical College, Srinagar
