Mr. Tariq Ahmad Ghani, President CCIK, Extends New Year Greetings 2026; Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Kashmir Tourism

Mr. Tariq Ahmad Ghani, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK), has extended warm New Year greetings to the people of Jammu & Kashmir and the entire nation on the auspicious occasion of New Year 2026.
In his message, Mr. Ghani expressed hope that the coming year will bring peace, prosperity, economic growth, and new opportunities for all sections of society, particularly for the business community, youth, and tourism stakeholders of Jammu & Kashmir.
Highlighting the pivotal role of tourism in Kashmir’s economy, Mr. Tariq Ahmad Ghani reiterated CCIK’s continued commitment to reviving, strengthening, and sustainably promoting Kashmir tourism at national and international levels. He emphasized that tourism remains a backbone of livelihood for thousands of families and plays a vital role in employment generation and regional development.
Mr. Ghani appreciated the efforts of hoteliers, travel agents, transporters, artisans, and all stakeholders who have worked tirelessly to project Kashmir as a safe, vibrant, and world-class tourist destination. He called for stronger coordination between the government and the private sector to further enhance infrastructure, connectivity, and tourist facilities.
Concluding his message, Mr. Tariq Ahmad Ghani wished that New Year 2026 ushers in renewed confidence, economic revival, and sustainable growth for Jammu & Kashmir and India as a whole.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK) has welcomed the timely action taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs against individuals involved in harassing and intimidating Kashmiri shawl vendors in different parts of the country.In a statement issued here, CCIK President Tariq Rashid Ghani expressed gratitude to the Hon'ble Home Miister, Shri Amit Shah and Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha for their prompt intervention, saying the response had brought much-needed reassurance to the affected traders and their families.He said there had been disturbing reports and widely circulated videos on social media showing Kashmiri shawl vendors facing harassment and intimidation while carrying out their lawful business outside Jammu and Kashmir. These vendors, he noted, travel across the country to sell traditional shawls and handicrafts as a means of earning an honest livelihood, particularly during the winter season when local economic opportunities shrink.CCIK stated that the swift action by the Ministry of Home Affairs against the culprits sends a strong message that such acts of harassment will not be tolerated and that the safety and dignity of citizens engaged in legitimate trade will be protected. CCIK observed that this intervention has helped restore confidence among Kashmiri traders who contribute to the country’s cultural and economic fabric through their work.CCIK also reiterated its long-standing demand for ensuring the safety, security and dignity of Kashmiri businessmen and traders across the country, irrespective of where they conduct their business. The chamber emphasised that freedom to trade without fear or discrimination is a fundamental right and an essential component of economic integration.The chamber further said that the action reflects the true spirit of democracy and secularism, where minorities are safeguarded and all religions and communities are respected. CCIK expressed hope that sustained vigilance and coordination between central and state authorities will ensure that such incidents do not recur, allowing Kashmiri traders to pursue their livelihoods in a secure and respectful environment.

Business Fraternity, Under the Banner of CCIK, Holds Key Meeting to Drive Kashmir’s Tourism Revival for the Upcoming Season

JK Revolution, 27 Nov:- The CCIK convened a significant meeting at Arison Luxury, Hyderpora, to discuss the revival of tourism in Kashmir for the upcoming season. The agenda included plans for extensive advertising campaigns, organizing a grand tourism festival, conducting roadshows, and inviting renowned celebrities to promote Kashmir as a premier travel destination.

The meeting witnessed the participation of all major stakeholders, including travel agents from across Kashmir, the Houseboat Owners Association, Shikara Association, tourism transporters, restaurant owners, and hoteliers from Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonmarg, and Doodhpathri. It was one of the largest gatherings held under the banner of CCIK for tourism revival.

During the meeting, it was decided that a detailed memorandum will be prepared and sent to the Prime Minister’s Office and the Lieutenant Governor’s Office. A joint delegation will also meet the Union Home Minister and the Prime Minister in December to discuss key issues related to tourism development.

CCIK further announced that a grand Tourism Festival will be celebrated to boost tourism, followed by dedicated promotional activities in Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Pahalgam. All participating federations appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to ensure full security for Kashmiri shawl traders and students residing outside the Valley.

An appeal was also extended to tourists across India to visit Kashmir during the snowfall, Christmas and New Year season. Stakeholders assured that attractive and affordable packages will be offered to all visitors to enhance their experience in Kashmir.(JK Revolution)

After closure, Gulmarg’s Drung to reopen for tourists tomorrow

Srinagar, Nov 22 Drung, a tourist destination in Gulmarg, is all set to reopen for visitors on Sunday (tomorrow) after being closed for several months following security concerns.

The closures across multiple key tourist sites, including Drung, were primarily closef due to heightened security threats following a major terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025.

The reopening of Drung in Tangmarg has been achieved after positive security reports from the civil and police administration.

Officials confirmed that the tourist spot is all set to welcome visitors again, especially with the upcoming winter tourism season, which is a peak time for the region.

Meanwhile jkhc and CCIK expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, and the dedicated Police and civil administration for reopening the Drung tourist destination in Gulmarg.

SnowShoe Delegation Meets J&K Sports Minister Satish Sharma; Seeks Reinclusion of SnowShoe in Khelo India Winter Games
Srinagar, Monday: A delegation of the J&K SnowShoe Association, led by its President Tariq Ghani and Vice President Arif Ahmad called on the J&K Sports Minister, Satish Sharma, at the Civil Secretariat Srinagar to discuss the growth and future roadmap of SnowShoe running as a winter sport in Jammu & Kashmir.

The delegation comprised Vice President Arif Ahmad, General Secretary Dr. Altaf-ur-Rehman, and International SnowShoe athletes Gulzar Khan and Muzamil Hussain, who have represented India on global platforms.
During the interaction, President Tariq Ghani briefed the Minister on the rising popularity and accessibility of SnowShoe running in J&K and the consistent dominance of J&K athletes at both National and International SnowShoe events. The sport’s significant potential to boost winter tourism without the need for major infrastructure or expensive equipment. Ghani also requested the Minister to re-include SnowShoe in the Khelo India Winter Games, noting that it was an official sport in the first three editions and featured as a demo sport in the 5th edition.
“SnowShoe running is one of the most accessible and cost-effective winter sports. It requires no specialised infrastructure and can be conducted anywhere there is snow. J&K athletes have already proven their mettle internationally, and with renewed support, we can further consolidate J&K’s leadership in this sport,” said President Tariq Ghani.
The delegation informed the Minister that, Gulmarg is set to host the 10th National SnowShoe Championship this winter. The Association is planning to organise a Guinness World Record SnowShoe Run in Gulmarg, aiming to draw national and international attention.
Sports Minister Satish Sharma appreciated the achievements of international athletes Gulzar Khan and Muzamil Hussain, congratulating them for bringing recognition to India and J&K.
“Our athletes have shown exceptional commitment and talent in SnowShoe events across the world. The government stands committed to supporting them in upcoming international competitions, including the event scheduled in Italy,” the Minister said.
He also expressed satisfaction that last year’s National SnowShoe Championship was successfully held in Sonamarg, proving that the discipline is adaptable to various snow destinations within the Union Territory.
“SnowShoe is truly an all-destination winter sport. We are working to make J&K the winter sports hub of India, and SnowShoe aligns perfectly with that vision. I will ensure that SnowShoe finds its rightful place again in the Khelo India Winter Games and receives full support across all regions of J&K,” Sharma added.
The meeting concluded with the delegation presenting a memento of appreciation to the Sports Minister on behalf of the SnowShoe Federation of India, acknowledging his continued encouragement for winter sports development in the region.
