Therapeutic Visit to Tulip Garden Organized by GMC Srinagar

Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar organized a therapeutic visit to the Tulip Garden, Srinagar, for children registered at the Child Guidance and Wellbeing Centre (CGWC), Government Psychiatric Diseases Hospital (IMHANS-K), and Government Children Hospital Srinagar.

The initiative aimed to promote mental well-being, strengthen social engagement, and provide a restorative experience in a natural setting. The visit created opportunities for emotional expression and recreation, with children actively participating and demonstrating positive engagement throughout the programme.

The programme was conducted with meticulous planning, ensuring safety, structured participation, and continuous medical supervision, with dedicated teams present on-site for support and emergency care.

The Child Guidance and Well-being Centre (CGWC), IMHANS - Kashmir, marked World Autism Awareness Day with a powerful message of inclusion, dignity, and collective responsibility.

The program was graced by Principal GMC Srinagar, Prof. Iffat Hassan; Administrative Officer GMC Srinagar, Muhammad Ashraf Hakak; Medical Superintendent IMHANS, Dr. Ajaz A. Baba; Head CGWC, Prof. Zaid A. Wani, Dr. Nusrat Jabeen along with other senior officials.

The event brought together 50 children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their parents in a warm and supportive environment. Through art-based therapy activities and interactive play sessions, the programme highlighted not only developmental support but also the unique strengths and potential of every child.

One of the most moving moments came when parents shared the visible improvements in their children. As one parent expressed, “I couldn’t afford services in the private sector due to financial constraints, but here I am receiving all the necessary support free of cost. Being from a low socio-economic background, this centre has been a lifeline for us.”

A key highlight was the Principal’s direct interaction with children and their families, listening to their experiences, acknowledging their journeys, and reaffirming institutional commitment towards inclusive and accessible care.

More than an observance, the day reinforced a clear message: awareness must lead to action through early intervention, community engagement, and systems that ensure no child is left behind.

Building Resilient Minds. Strengthening Communities.

Half of all mental health conditions begin before the age of 14, yet early support remains limited.

To respond to this urgent need, the Child Guidance & Wellbeing Centre (CGWC), IMHANS successfully completed a 10-Day Certificate Course on “Mental Health and Psychosocial Well-being of Children” (9th–18th February 2026) at SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, with support from UNICEF.
24 UG psychology students formed the first batch of this intensive, skill-based training focused on:
• Child Rights & Protection
• Neurodevelopmental & Adolescent Mental Health
• Positive Parenting
• Female Mental Health
• Impact of Social Media
Through applied learning, case discussions, and role plays, we are strengthening grassroots mental health systems across Jammu & Kashmir.
Early identification. Skilled professionals. Stronger communities.
Together, we can build a safer, mentally healthier future for every child.

Our team from Child Guidance and Well-being Centre (CGWC) – IMHANS Kashmir, with support from UNICEF India, conducted a Medical & Mental Health Outreach Camp at Isham, Uri-a remote border-side village near Kaman Post, where access to healthcare is limited but hope remains strong.

More than 400 individuals including men, women, elderly, and children received:
• Free medical & psychiatric consultations
• Counseling and psychological first aid
• IEC materials on mental health, wellbeing & resilience
• Distribution of medicines & hygiene kits

The program was facilitated by Police Station Uri, and we are truly indebted to SHO Uri, Mr. Mudasir Ahmad, for his invaluable support and coordination in making this outreach a success.

Taking mental health services to the last mile, where care often ends but compassion continues.
