Srinagar Police Seeks Public Assistance in Identification of Accused Involved in Vehicle Theft

Srinagar, September 8, 2025:

On 17th September, 2025, a Maruti Alto 800 vehicle bearing registration number JK13C 8871 (White colour) was reported stolen from Chanapora area.
In this regard, FIR No. 35/2025 has been registered at Police Station Chanapora.

During the course of investigation, CCTV footage was analyzed, which shows the stolen vehicle and the suspected accused.
In order to identify the individual(s) involved, the public is requested to assist by viewing the footage and sharing any relevant information that may help in the investigation.

Anyone with information is requested to contact Police Station Chanapora or call PCR Srinagar.
The identity of the informant will be kept confidential.

It is to clarify that Police and Civil Administration are working in close coordination, with sustained efforts ongoing to effectively manage, contain, and mitigate any disaster-related situations in a professional and timely manner.

The general public is advised to act responsibly and refrain from sharing or forwarding unverified information.
Misinformation can lead to unnecessary panic and disrupt public order.

Srinagar Police is closely monitoring the situation, and strict legal action will be taken, under relevant provisions of law, against those found involved in spreading rumours or false information.

We urge all citizens to stay informed and cooperate with authorities.

Srinagar Police Leads Evacuation and Relocation Efforts Amid The Challenging Weather Conditions.

Srinagar, September 4, 2025:

In response to the ongoing flood-like situation and heavy waterlogging in various parts of the city, Srinagar Police, in close coordination with SDRF and River Police, has activated a comprehensive evacuation and relocation plan to safeguard the lives and well-being of affected citizens.

Police teams from concerned Police Stations, along with River Police and SDRF units, have been deployed under the supervision of territorial officers across multiple vulnerable locations in the District.
These teams have successfully evacuated and relocated nearly 200 families and individuals from the most severely impacted areas.

Pertinently, 24 families and houseboat dwellers have been rescued and relocated from Peerzo Island and Basantbagh ;

39 families evacuated and relocated from vulnerable areas including Bonyarbal, S.R. Gunj, Malik Sahib, Safakdal, Pamposh Colony, Noorbagh, Guzarbal, and Madanyar Fateh Kadal;

20 families and individuals evacuated and relocated from Dedi Kadal, Habba Kadal, Zaindar Mohalla, Tankipora, Karan Nagar, Kursoo, Iqbal Colony, and Aramwari;

20 families rescued and relocated from Tailbal and vulnerable areas of Hazratbal;

63 individuals rescued and relocated from Panzinara-Mujgund, Bund Side, Maloora Bund, Khawajabagh Bund, Parimpora Bund, Bilal Colony Bund, Qamarwari, Rampora Chattabal Bund, Zenpora, and Tengan.

In addition to evacuation efforts, Srinagar Police has proactively identified and plugged potential breaches in embankments, preventing further escalation of the flood-like situation.

District Police Srinagar has also formed contingency teams and QRTs across all Police establishments of the District to actively provide aid and assistance to stranded citizens, regulate traffic at congested areas and reach the doorsteps of affected vulnerable families timely for frontline rescue efforts.

Moreover, Srinagar Police has established 24×7 dedicated Helplines to assist citizens in any crises-like situation, in addition to publishing official phone numbers of all officers of the District for any and every assistance in these times.

Srinagar Police urges citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall; report incidents such as waterlogging, fallen trees, or electric hazards to the nearest Police Station or Police Control Room (PCR); cooperate with police and emergency services and adhere strictly to official advisories.

Citizens facing emergencies are encouraged to contact the dedicated helplines or CUG/official numbers of District Police Officers, which are operational round the clock and available in the public domain.

Police teams have been strategically deployed throughout Srinagar to address weather-related challenges. These include :
assisting stranded civilian, particularly in low-lying and waterlogged areas,
coordinating with civil departments for swift dewatering and sanitation efforts, supporting Traffic Police in managing congested routes, diverting vehicles from flooded zones, and responding promptly to emergency calls through the Police Control Room (PCR) and dedicated helpline numbers.

*Srinagar Police Solves Theft Case; Accused Arrested, Stolen Property Recovered*

Srinagar, September 1, 2025:

On August 24, 2025, Police Station Nishat received a written complaint from Mohammad Aslam Lone, S/O Abdul Gani Lone, resident of Gupkar Mohalla, Nishat, alleging the theft of cash and gold ornaments worth several lakhs by unknown individuals.

Based on the complaint, FIR No. 69/2025 under sections 305, 331(3) BNS was registered at Police Station Nishat, and investigation was promptly initiated.

During the course of investigation, several suspects were questioned and one suspect namely Shahid Mehraj Bhat, S/O Mehraj-ud-Din Bhat, resident of Meerakabad, Shalimar was identified as the accused and subsequently, he was arrested for the commission of the crime.

Upon his disclosure, the stolen property, including Rs. 50,000 in cash and gold ornaments valued at Rs. 2,65,000, was recovered.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further recoveries are anticipated from the accused person.

Srinagar Police Observes Lok Darbar-cum-Awareness Programme of New Criminal Laws (Thana Diwas)

As a part of the public outreach programme of J&K Government, Srinagar Police observed *'Lok Darbar-cum-Awareness programme of New Criminal Laws (Thana Diwas)* across various Police Stations and Police Posts of the city.
In the *2nd phase for the month of August 2025, the event was organized in *(08) Police Stations & (03) Police Posts* of the district which include :

PS Shalteng
PS Womens
PP Khunmoh
PP Qamarwari
PP Hazratbal

The meetings were chaired by supervisory officers & juridictional police officers and were attended by civil society members including members of Auqaf Committees, members of Traders Federation and Transporters, Panchayti Raj members, Religious Preachers, Mohallah elders etc.

During these Lok Darbar cm awareness programmes of New Criminal Laws (Thana Diwas), participants highlighted various issues of public importance and put forth their greivances which were within the domain of district police like illegal narcotics trafficking, sand mafia, traffic issues, floating population etc. some of the issues highlighted pertaining to civil administration like improvement and maintenance of roads, sanitation, public health, electricity etc were also recorded.

District Police Srinagar stated, Lok Darbar Cum Awareness Programme on New Criminal Laws (Thana Diwas) is a platform for us connect directly with the people we serve. It is our duty to ensure that every citizen feels heared and that their grievances are addressed promptly. We are committed to building a safer and more secure environment for all.

Participants were urged to co-operate with Police in curbing the drug menace and in identifying anti national and anti-social elements to maintain peace and order in the society.
Community members assured their cooperation for enhancing police-public relationship.
