Clarification Regarding the Circulating Facebook Post

This is in reference to the Facebook post circulating about the unfortunate death of a child. Following a complaint received from the parents on October 18, 2025, the SKIMS administration constituted a committee to examine the matter in detail.

The Head of the concerned Department has already attached the involved doctors with the Convenor of the Committee, on the very same day the committee was constituted, as an interim measure.

The committee is in the final stages of its inquiry awaiting the version of the parents/attendants to ensure a fair, transparent, and comprehensive investigation.

The SKIMS administration assures that justice will be delivered, and strict action will be taken if anyone is found guilty. There is zero tolerance for any casual or negligent approach by doctors, nursing staff, or paramedical personnel while dealing with patients.

Infant’s Death at SKIMS Soura: Parents Allege Negligence, FAIMA Seeks Urgent Probe

Srinagar, Nov 13: The death of an infant, Ahmed Nayeem, at SKIMS Soura on October 18 has sparked serious allegations of medical negligence and calls for an immediate inquiry.

In a detailed social media post, the child’s mother claimed that a paediatrician at Noora Hospital failed to conduct a proper examination on October 17 despite visible signs of dehydration. Later that night, as the infant’s condition worsened, the family shifted him to SKIMS Soura.

The parents allege that emergency staff at SKIMS were unresponsive, failed to act on the baby’s dropping oxygen levels, and attributed malfunctioning readings to machine error. The infant was eventually moved to the NICU, where he was declared dead the next morning.

The family says no official has contacted them or taken action despite repeated appeals.

The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), led by Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan, has urged the Principal and Director of SKIMS to initiate an immediate and impartial inquiry, stressing that strict action must follow if any negligence is established.

Inquiry Ordered on Doctors Showing No Interest in Hospitals, Forcing Patients to Costly Private Care: Sakina Itoo

Srinagar, July 28 : Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakina Itoo, on Sunday evening visited the Children’s Hospital in Srinagar, expressing strong disapproval of the alleged conduct of some doctors, claiming that their lack of interest in patient care is compelling people to seek costly treatment in private facilities.

Speaking to media persons during the visit, the Minister said, “These very doctors force patients to go to private hospitals. The patients are left helpless. When a patient is serious and the doctor shows no interest, failing to provide proper treatment, the patients are compelled to turn to private care, where they are charged exorbitant amounts.”

She added that the government has already taken note of several such complaints. “The government is aware of these issues, and many such matters have come to our notice. An inquiry has already been ordered into these complaints,” she said.

Over the past few days, following the SMHS incident where operation theatres were shut during a doctors’ strike, Sakina Itoo has conducted a series of surprise visits to key health facilities including SMHS Srinagar, JVC Bemina, Emergency Hospital Qazigund, and District Hospital Pulwama. During these visits, the Minister expressed displeasure over the lack of adequate staff presence, unsatisfactory patient care, and poor hygiene conditions in some hospitals.

She has repeatedly stressed that patient welfare remains the top priority of the government and warned of strict action against negligence.

Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today informed the House that the Burzahama Hospital will be constructed at an alternate site and appropriate provision of funding will be kept for timely ex*****on of the project.
The Minister made these remarks while replying to a starred question raised by Salman Sagar in the Legislative Assembly.

She informed that the construction work on Burzahama Hospital building was stopped on the objections of the Archaeological Survey of India, Union Ministry for Culture.
“During the year 2013-14, the construction of PHC Burzahama was taken up in hand under State Sector Capex Budget at an estimated cost of ₹179 lakh through JKPHC, against which ₹17 lakh were released. However, the construction work could not be carried out due to objections raised by the Archaeological Survey of India as the construction site comes under their jurisdiction thereby, causing the work on the project to halt”, apprised the Minister.

The Minister further said that the Intizamia Committee Burzahama offered a piece of Auqaf land for construction of the Health Centre at an alternate site but the Revenue Authority (Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar) has not yet transferred the land to the department for ex*****on of this vital project.

“The department shall explore the possibility for construction of this health project at an alternate site and make appropriate provision of funding for timely ex*****on”, the Minister informed.
