Success Story Of Revision Knee Replacement
Presenting a case of a 70-year-old female with a previously operated Total Knee Replacement done in 2019, who unfortunately developed a chronic periprosthetic joint infection (PJI).
She underwent two prior debridements at another center, but continued to have a persistent discharging sinus, along with a warm, tender, and painful knee—classic signs of chronic infection.
She was managed at our center with a staged revision TKR following the standard two-stage protocol for PJI, in close coordination with an Infectious Disease (ID) specialist for targeted microbial eradication.
Currently, her knee is clinically silent with
✅ No signs of infection
✅ Normal inflammatory markers
✅ Absence of constitutional symptoms (fever, malaise, etc.)
She has regained a functional, pain-free range of motion of 110–120° and is independently mobile in daily activities.
Given her bone quality and soft tissue-ligament balance, we are not pushing her beyond physiological limits to avoid iatrogenic complications.
