ડો.મનુ કોઠારી બહુ જુદા જ મિજાજના અને કોઇની સાડીબાર નહીં રાખનારા નિષ્ણાત અનુભવી ડોક્ટર હતા. ડૉકટરો અને મેડીકલ સાયન્સની અનેક પોકળતાઓ અને અજ્ઞાન ઉઘાડા પાડેલા છે. આજે મને વોટ્સએપ પરથી એક જુનો લેખ હાથ આવ્યો છે. ભલે ૨૦૦૬ માં લખાયો હોય પરંતુ આજે પણ કશું જ બદલાયું નથી.

*માંદગીમાંય મોઢું મલકતું રાખવાની કળા*

સૌ પ્રથમ એ સ્વીકારી લેવું જોઇએ કે,
માંદગી કોઇ આપત્તિ કે અભિશાપ નથી.

આપણે એવું માની બેઠા છીએ કે શરીર હંમેશાં આદર્શ સ્થિતિમાં જ રહેવું જોઇએ, જે ખરેખર શક્ય નથી.

રોગને લીધે મૃત્યુ થાય છે, એ વાતમાં કોઇ વજૂદ નથી એ વાત પણ સ્વીકારો.

રોગથી મૃત્યુ થતું નથી.
રોગ એ શરીરનો ધર્મ છે,
જ્યારે મૃત્યુ એ સમયનો ધર્મ છે.

કેટલાક ડોક્ટરોએ પોતાની મહત્તા વધારવા માટે,
રોગોનું ભયાનક ચિત્રણ ઊભું કર્યું છે.
હૃદયરોગ, હાઇપરટેંશન, કેંસર, ડાયાબિટીસ, જેવા કહેવાતા જીવલેણ રોગો મૂળે તો ઉમર સહજ રોગ છે.

જેમ ઉમર સહજ શારીરિક ફેરફારો મારી નાખતાં નથી, તેમ કહેવાતા જીવલેણ રોગો પણ મારી શકતા નથી.

મોટામાં મોટી વાત એ છે કે ડોક્ટરો જેને કિલર ડિસીઝ કહે છે એ મૃત્યુ માટે ખાસ કારણભૂત હોતા જ નથી.
અમેરિકામાં કેંસર વિશે થયેલા એક સર્વેના તારણમાં સ્પષ્ટ લખ્યું હતું,
”કેંસર મારતું નથી, સમય મારે છે.”

હું ડૉ. મનુ કોઠારી હૃદયરોગ પર છેલ્લા 30 વર્ષથી અભ્યાસ કરી રહ્યો છું ને નિષ્કર્ષ પર પહોંચ્યો છું કે હૃદયરોગ જીવલેણ નથી પણ મૃત્યુનો સમય પાકે ત્યારે જ હૃદયરોગ જીવલેણ બને છે; રોગને મિત્ર ગણી, હસતા મોઢે વધાવી લેવો.

રોગ, મિત્ર એટલા માટે છે કે એ તમને તમારા શરીરની નબળી કાર્યક્ષમતા વિશે ખબરદાર કરે છે.

અચિકિત્સિત વ્યાધિ વિકાર હોય ત્યારે,
મૃત્યુની ફિકરમાં જીવવા કરતાં
પ્રસન્ન રહીને મૃત્યુની રાહ જોવી.

મૃત્યુ એ તો ઇશ્વરનું વરદાન છે
રોગ સાથે ઝગડો કરવો અનુચિત છે.

10 માંથી માંડ 1 જ રોગમાં ડોક્ટર કામ આવે છે, બાકીના કિસ્સાઓમાં મોટા ભાગે ડોકટરો લાકડાની તલવાર જ ફેરવતા હોય છે.

આજે ડોક્ટરો એલોપેથી ઉપરાંત બીજી અનેક જુદી જુદી સારવાર પધ્ધતિઓ અજમાવતા જોવા મળે છે. શા માટે ?
કેમ કે આમાની કોઇ પણ પધ્ધતિ ૧૦૦% સચોટ નથી.

બીજું એ કે કેંસર જેવી બીમારી થાય ત્યારે લોકો અપરાધભાવ અનુભવે છે.
દર્દીને એમ થાય છે કે મેં ખાવાપીવામાં સરખું ધ્યાન ન આપ્યું એટલે બીમારી પેસી ગઇ, પણ હકીકત જુદી હોય છે.

જગતમાં સરેરાશ દર પાંચમાંથી એક વ્યક્તિને કેંસર થાય છે એટલે જેને રોગ ન હોય એણે મૂછ ઊંચી ન કરવી અને જેને હોય એણે હતાશ ન થવું.

જીવલેણ રોગ સાથે પણ લાંબું જીવી શકાય છે ને અત્યંત તંદુરસ્ત શરીર સાથે પણ ગમે ત્યારે મૃત્યુ પામી શકાય છે.

ડોક્ટરોએ મૃત્યુને રોગ સાથે જોડી દીધું છે એટલે કદાચ આ વાત માનવામાં નહીં આવે, પણ *અમેરિકામાં દર પાંચમી નાદારી મેડિકલ બિલને કારણે નોંધાય છે* એટલે રોગ આપણને પજવે નહીં ત્યાં સુધી તેને છંછેડવા નહીં.

મેડિકલ ચેક-અપ કરાવવા ગયા હોય ને રિપોર્ટમાં કેંસર આવે તો ઊંચાનીચા ન થઇ જવું! કેંસર સાથે આનંદથી જીવવું!

મહાન રશિયન ચિંતક એલેકઝાંડર
સોલ્ઝેનિત્સિકને 1955 માં કેંસર થયેલું ત્યારે એ જેલમાં હતા. જેલવાસ દરમિયાન એમને એક કોરિયન સર્જને કહેલું કે તમારી બીમારી અસાધ્ય છે, ઓપેરશન પણ શક્ય નથી એટલે તમે ત્રણેક મહિનાથી વધુ નહીં જીવી શકો!!

પણ એ પછી આ ભાઇએ કલમ ઉપાડી, લખવાનું શરૂ કર્યું ને નોબેલ પ્રાઇઝ મેળવ્યું. માનશો?!!? 2018 માં પણ આ કેંસરનો દર્દી જીવિત અને
હાકલા કરતો અને પેલો કોરિયન સર્જન હયાત નહતાં !
એલેક્ઝાન્ડર કેન્સર નિદાન પછી 73 વર્ષ જીવ્યા!1
966 માં તેમણે *કેન્સર વોર્ડ* અદભુત પુસ્તક લખ્યું ને 1970 માં તેમને સાહિત્યનું નોબલ પ્રાઈઝ પણ આપવામાં આવ્યું હતું.

આ શરીર જેવું અદ્ભુત જગતમાં કંઇ જ નથી, કદરૂપામાં કદરૂપી વ્યક્તિના શરીરમાં જેટલી ભવ્યતા છે એટલી અમુક સ્મારકો માં પણ નથી એટલે રોગથી થાકી હારી કે કંટાળી જવાને બદલે ચિત્ત પ્રસન્ન રાખી મોજથી જીવ્યા કરવું,

ચમત્કાર જોવાની ઇચ્છા થાય તો રોજ સવારે ઊઠી દર્પણમાં જોઇ લેવું. દરરોજ સવારે જીવતા ઊઠીએ છીએ એથી મોટો કોઇ ચમત્કાર જ નથી.

રોજ સવારે ઊઠી સૂર્યનાં કિરણો પામો
સુંદર મજાનાં ફૂલો સૂંઘો
લીલાં પાન જોઇ હરખાઓ
હવાની લહેરખીને મનમાં ભરી લો.
રોજ સવારે મળતા શ્વાસથી ઊંચી
કોઇ સોગાદ નથી.

બીમારીને પકડીને ઉદાસ થઇ બેસી રહેવા કરતાં મોઢું મલકતું રાખો.
