Stages of a Knee Replacement: Yes, in 2025, you can preserve much more of your natural knee than what used to be the scenario 10-15 years back. What if the patient has very advanced knee arthritis and really needs a Total Knee Replacement ? Still, if we retain the Posterior Cruciate Ligament, which is the strongest ligament of the knee, we can save 30-40% more bone. Not only that, retaining this ligament has other benefits also, in terms of better stability, more natural movements of the knee, less risk of fall and fractures, as well as increased life of the implants. Steps in a Conventional Knee Surgery: Cut bone, Balance tissues and then Assess. These steps become irreversible. In a Robotic assisted surgery, the steps go absolutely reverse. Assess , Balance (virtually), and then Cut bone. So performing bone cuts come as a last step of the surgery, after the surgery has been perfectly planned. This allows us surgeons to perform fine tuning and achieve perfect balance, and hence a precise surgery.
