World Blood Donor Day takes place on 14 June each year. The aim is to raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion and of the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems.

Safe blood and blood products and their transfusion are a critical aspect of care and public health. They save millions of lives and improve the health and quality of life of many patients every day. The need for blood is universal, but access to blood for all those who need it is not. Blood shortages are particularly acute in developing countries.

For 2021, the World Blood Donor Day slogan will be “Give blood and keep the world beating”. The message highlights the essential contribution blood donors make to keeping the world pulsating by saving lives and improving others’ health. It reinforces the global call for more people all over the world to donate blood regularly and contribute to better health.

Those who are well and can donate blood I urge you to donate blood, because by donating blood you are saving someone's life. And that give you immense happiness and feeling of peace.

Kantola, as it is commonly known, is a monsoon vegetable which is not just healthy but also low in calories. Seasonal vegetables are great if you are looking for regular intake of nutrition and still go easy on your pocket. The best part of including seasonal fruits and vegetables in your diet is their inherent ability to fight seasonal illnesses and flu.

👉Here are some health benefits of the vegetable:

1. It is a great source of phytonutrients, also low in calories, high in water content, so it's beneficial if you are trying to lose weight.

2. As it is usually found during the monsoons, it is helpful in keeping seasonal cough, cold and other allergies at bay, due to its anti-allergen and analgesic properties.

3. It also reduces blood sugar levels in diabetic patients since it is rich in plant insulin so anything that is high in fibre and is loaded with water content is a great choice for a diabetic diet, and spiny gourd ticks all the boxes.

4. Carotenoids, like Lutein, present in this vegetable help in prevention of various eye diseases, cardiovascular diseases and even cancers. Being a source of vitamin C - a natural antioxidant, it removes toxic free radicals from the body reducing the chance of cancer.

5. It helps to keep the skin healthy as it contains various flavonoids such as beta carotene, lutein and zeaxanthins that act as protective scavengers. It also has anti-ageing properties as it is blessed with antioxidants that fight free radicals the body has due to ageing and pollution.

6. It is high in fibre and anti-oxidants and thus very useful for easy digestion and eliminates constipation.

Lychee, also known as ‘Litchi’ or ‘Lichi’, is an evergreen tree of the soapberry family. This tree is known for its edible fruits, which are native to Southeast Asia, and have been a favorite of the Cantonese since ancient times. Lychee fruit is usually eaten fresh and its pulp is aromatic and musky in flavor. When dried, the same pulp tastes acidic and very sweet. The fruits are oval to round, strawberry red in colour, and about 25 mm (1 inch) in diameter. The brittle outer covering encloses a translucent white fleshy aril and one large seed.
Lychee contains good amount of fiber and Vitamin B-complex which increase metabolism fat, protein and carbohydrate. It contains high amount of antioxidants which is effective to prevent early ageing. Lychee contains a good amount of potassium, which is required to maintain sodium level.

Myth- Dieticians restrict food and doesn't let us it whatever we want.

Fact- Dieticians never restrict food. This condition only takes place in some medical conditions. Dieticians / Nutritionists are the one who educate you and make your food choices and lifestyle better.

Dieticians make sure to give you whole food according to your goal.....unless and untill a person is suffering from deficiency. If a person is suffering from deficiency then only medicines are given as per consultation with the physician.

We the dieticians never give any weightloss or weightgain shakes/ soup/ pills.

Beaware of these persons who are just letting you in supplementation rather than whole food.

Flax continues to surge forward in its recognition as a functional food and has recently gained attention in the area of cardiovascular disease primarily because it is the richest known source of alpha-linolenic acid, the phytoestrogen, lignans, as well as being a good source of soluble fiber. Lignans have diverse range of biological activities and flax seeds contain a lignin derivative, secoisolariciresinol diglucoside which get metabolized into the mammalian lignans. The flax lignans influence the early risk markers of mammary and colonic carcinogenesis in animal models. Regular consumption of flaxseed products can affect serum total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations, reduce postprandial glucose absorption, decrease some markers of inflammation and raise serum levels of the omega-3 fatty acids, ALA and eicosapentaenoic acid. The flax seed has been shown to possess significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory functions in experimental as well as human studies. The flax seed supplementation in diet revealed potential health benefits in situations like cardiovascular risk, certain types of cancers and other metabolic disorders
