1990 પહેલા આંખના નંબર હટાવવા માટે Radial Keratotomy ( RK ) નામની સર્જરી કરવામાં આવતી હતી. આ સર્જરીમાં આંખની કીકી પર 8 થી 24 કાપા કરવામાં આવતા. આ સર્જરીને કારણે આંખની કીકી નબળી પડતી અને આંખની કીકીનો આકાર અનિયમિત થઈ જતો, જેને કારણે હાલના સમયમાં આંખના નંબર ઉતારવા માટે આ સર્જરી કરવામાં આવતી નથી.

જે આંખમાં પહેલા RK નું ઓપરેશન થયેલું છે તેમાં મોતિયો પાકે ત્યારે તેમાં મોતિયાનું ઓપરેશન કરવું એક ખૂબ જ કઠિન કાર્ય છે.

મોતિયાના ઓપરેશન સમયે આંખની કીકી પર લાગેલા કાપા ખુલી જવાની શક્યતા રહેલી છે. મોતિયા ના ઓપરેશન પછી આંખમાં જે નેત્રમણી બેસાડતા હોય છે તેનો પાવર નક્કી કરવો પણ કઠિન છે.
