Today, the Department of Community Medicine of TMCH, in collaboration with ICTC, TMCH, commemorated 2023 with a multifaceted awareness program aimed at educating and engaging the community.
The day began with a vibrant Awareness Rally led by students, senior faculty members, and staff, creating a visible impact as it wound its way through Tezpur Cancer Center, Tezpur. The rally concluded with a compelling Street Play performance by students in front of the OPD building of the hospital, capturing the attention of onlookers and reinforcing key messages about HIV/AIDS.
In a formal meeting, the Head of the Department of Community Medicine Prof. Rupali Baruah, along with Deputy Superintendent Dr Nitu Gogoi, the Head of the Department of Pediatrics Prof. Niruprabha Saharia and Head of the Department of Microbiology Prof. Samrat Biswas, addressed the gathering. Emphasis was placed on dispelling myths surrounding HIV/AIDS and educating attendees on modes of transmission. This insightful session provided a platform for various departments to collaborate and share their expertise.
The program's culmination took place with an Awareness Campaign at Jugal Higher Secondary School, organized by faculty members and Post Graduate Trainees of the Community Medicine Department, TMCH. The discussions focused on the central theme of this year's World AIDS Day, "LET COMMUNITIES LEAD!" The engagement aimed to empower communities to take an active role in HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
Crucial topics, such as modes of HIV transmission, prevention strategies, and the treatment and services available at TMCH for HIV/AIDS, were covered in the program. To encourage active participation, an open quiz was conducted among students, fostering a dynamic learning environment.
TMCH's initiative not only effectively disseminated information about HIV/AIDS but also fostered collaboration among departments and engaged the local community in the fight against this global health challenge. The commitment to "LET COMMUNITIES LEAD!" echoes the importance of collective efforts in addressing and overcoming the impact of HIV/AIDS.
