NHM Sonitpur, Joint Director Health Services, Tezpur (2026)

Dr. Tanu Jain, Director, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Government of India, visited Naharani Tea Estate on 25th February. She was accompanied by the Regional Director, the State NVBDCP team, Joint Director of Health Servicrs, Sonitpur, District Programme Manager (NHN), Sonitpur, Epidemiologist, IDSP, Sonitpur and officials of District NVBDCP team.
During her visit, she interacted with ASHA workers and members of the local community of the tea estate. She discussed ongoing public health initiatives, reviewed the implementation of vector-borne disease control measures, and gathered feedback on the challenges faced at the grassroots level. The visit provided an opportunity to strengthen coordination among health officials and field workers and to reinforce the importance of active community participation in the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases.

The 3rd Phase of the Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) is currently underway in Sonitpur district. As part of this initiative, health workers are conducting an extensive house-to-house survey to actively identify new and previously undetected cases of leprosy. The campaign aims to ensure early diagnosis, timely treatment, and prevention of disability, thereby strengthening efforts toward the elimination of leprosy from the district.

কুষ্ঠৰোগ চিনাক্তকৰণ অভিযান (LCDC)-ৰ তৃতীয় পৰ্যায় বৰ্তমান শোণিতপুৰ জিলাত চলি আছে। এই উদ্যোগৰ অংশ হিচাপে স্বাস্থ্যকৰ্মীসকলে ঘৰে ঘৰে গৈ বিস্তৃত সমীক্ষা চলাই নতুন আৰু পূৰ্বতে চিনাক্ত নোহোৱা কুষ্ঠ ৰোগীসকলক সক্ৰিয়ভাৱে চিনাক্ত কৰি আছে। এই অভিযানৰ মূল লক্ষ্য হৈছে ৰোগৰ আগতীয়া চিনাক্তকৰণ, সময়মতে চিকিৎসা নিশ্চিত কৰা আৰু অক্ষমতা প্ৰতিৰোধ কৰা, যাৰ জৰিয়তে জিলাখনত কুষ্ঠৰোগ নিৰ্মূলৰ প্ৰচেষ্টাক অধিক শক্তিশালী কৰা হৈছে।

Mass Drug Administration (MDA) for filariasis in Rangapara, under Sonitpur district, is an important public health initiative aimed at eliminating Lymphatic Filariasis (commonly known as elephantiasis). This disease is caused by parasitic worms transmitted through mosquito bites and can lead to severe swelling of legs, arms, and other body parts. To prevent its spread, the Health Department conducts annual MDA campaigns in different areas of Rangapara, covering both urban and rural populations.

Adult Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vaccination camps were conducted at different locations under North Jamuguri BPHC. The camps were organized to provide protection against JE among eligible adults and to strengthen preventive health measures in the community.
During the sessions, beneficiaries were informed about the causes, symptoms, and preventive measures of Japanese Encephalitis, along with the importance of timely vaccination. Health workers ensured proper screening and safe administration of the vaccine, while also addressing queries and concerns of the participants. The initiative aimed to increase vaccination coverage, reduce the risk of JE infection, and promote overall community health and awareness.

Awareness activities on leprosy, malaria, and tuberculosis (TB) were conducted at Porja Line under Dibrudarrang Tea Estate AAM, under Dhekiajuli BPHC. During the session, participants were informed about the causes, symptoms, prevention, early detection, and treatment of these diseases. Emphasis was given to the importance of maintaining personal hygiene, using mosquito nets to prevent malaria, completing the full course of TB treatment, and reducing stigma associated with leprosy.
In addition, adult Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vaccination was carried out during the program to protect eligible beneficiaries from the disease. Community members were encouraged to actively participate in preventive health measures and to seek timely medical care from nearby health facilities. The programme aimed to improve awareness, promote healthy practices, and strengthen disease prevention efforts within the community.
