Ritucharya is a Sanskrit term used in Ayurveda that refers to the seasonal regimen or lifestyle practices recommended to maintain health and prevent diseases throughout the year. It includes diet, behavior, and exercise guidelines that are tailored to each season's unique climate and environmental factors to balance the body's doshas and promote overall well-being.
Bitter, hot, and astringent foods are advised in the spring, cold and liquid diets in the summer, sweet and salty foods in the rainy season, and hot, sweet, sour, and salty foods in the winter. In the autumn season, ghee processed with bitter herbs is recommended, and diets dominant in bitter, sweet, and pungent flavors are encouraged.
