Glycemic index (GI) is like a rating for foods that have carbohydrates. It tells you how fast your blood sugar goes up after you eat them.

People with diabetes should opt for low glycemic index (GI) foods because they help keep blood sugar levels stable. These foods, like whole grains and vegetables, release their energy slowly, preventing rapid spikes in blood sugar. For instance, think of white bread as having a high GI; it quickly raises blood sugar.

On the other hand, foods like brown rice (with a lower GI) release energy more gradually, which is better for those with diabetes.

This steadier blood sugar control reduces the strain on insulin and is key to long-term diabetes management.

9 healthy Indian breakfast recipes suitable for a person with diabetes:

1.Moong Dal Chilla:
A nutritious and protein-packed option. Make a batter from soaked and ground moong dal, and cook it like a crepe. Add chopped vegetables and a pinch of spices for flavor.

2 Whole wheat Bread Sandwich
Create a nutritious sandwich using whole wheat bread filled with diabetes-friendly ingredients like lean protein (chicken, turkey, or paneer), plenty of fresh vegetables, and a light spread of low-fat, diabetic-friendly sauce or chutney.

3. Oats Upma:
Replace semolina with oats for a fiber-rich twist on upma. Sauté oats with mustard seeds, curry leaves, and veggies. It's a wholesome, low-glycemic option.

4 Egg Bhurji with Spinach:
Scrambled eggs cooked with finely chopped spinach and a dash of turmeric make a nutrient-packed and savory breakfast choice for diabetics.

5 Quinoa Upma:
Quinoa cooked with vegetables and traditional Indian spices offers a protein-rich and low-glycemic alternative to Poha.

6 Sprouted Salad
A sprouted salad is highly nutritious due to its increased nutrient content, improved digestibility, and a wealth of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes.

7 Idli:
These steamed rice cakes are a low-glycemic option. Use a mix of rice and urad dal (black gram) for the batter.

8. Methi Thepla:
A Gujarati favorite, these flatbreads are made from whole wheat flour, fenugreek leaves (methi), and spices. They are nutritious and diabetic-friendly.

9 Millet Pongal:
made with foxtail millet, lentils, and spices.

Remember to manage portion sizes and monitor your blood sugar levels as part of a balanced diet plan. Consulting a healthcare provider or nutritionist for personalized advice is essential for diabetic management.
