's_Day
Migraine is three times more common in women than men. It is seen commonly in women of child bearing age.
On the occasion of women’s day, I would like to educate and create awareness amongst female migraineurs. There are numerous times when hormonal influences have an impact on migraine. It is observed that more than half of women experience migraine during me**es due to rapid falling of s*x hormones. Estrogen plays a key role. Therefore, some women have less episodes when they are pregnant. During pregnancy be careful about medications used as they may carry risk on the developing foetus.
Though migraine is self-limiting, yet it can cause disability. During a migraine attack one will experience throbbing pain mostly on one side of the head with nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light (photophobia) and sensitivity to sound (phonophobia). One can see flashes of light, colors or dark spots before experiencing headache (visual aura).
Creating awareness will not only help in reducing headache but will also help in improving quality of life. As correctly quoted, “The sooner you attack the headache, the better”. Discipline in lifestyle and food habits is very important. Identify and avoid triggers. Maintain a headache diary to record the triggers. Regularization of sleep and meals will be of great help. Wearing sunglasses can be protective. Do exercise, yoga, pranayama for a stress-free life. Take medicines regularly as advised by your neurologist.
Go Girls, have a headache free life!
