This young man had a severe congenital Ptosis with jaw winking. His only concern was the droopy eyelid and not the jaw winking. He also had mild squint (R/L with mild XT) that he didn’t wish to get corrected.
While frontalis based surgery should be the first choice here with a levator action of 5 mm, poor Bell’s; the deep set eyes, and bulky lid-brow made me choose my second option: Supramax levator resection.
The surgery went as planned but he developed lymphoedema. A second minor surgery was needed to debulk more fat which seeped into the eyelid due to prolonged edema.
A sweet, patient and humorous young fellow, he couldn’t stop beaming after the second procedure.
This was a rare situation where it took us few months to get him from the before to the after, instead of few weeks.
The effort paid off. What stood out is the patience he displayed, and how calmly we handled the situation. All is well that ends well. This wonderful boy is truly worthy of the joy he feels!
