Department of Radiation Oncology
Radiation Oncology is an advanced branch of modern cancer treatment which is painless, incision less and preventive. Often abbreviated as RT, RTx or XRT, it involves the use of ionizing radiation to control or destroy malignant cells without inflicting a cut in the body. Different types of cancers including Breast, Re**al, Lung, Brain and many more are treated under Radiation Oncology.
The department has an advanced linear accelerator, Elekta Platform, and delivers quality treatment with high precision using 3-Dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy (3DCRT), Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), IGRT (IMRT with Image Guidance) and Electron Therapy (Total Skin / Total Body / Hemibody).
Treatment planning is done with customized immobilization devices in a dedicated mould room, followed by imaging on wide bore In HOUSE CT Simulator. PET scan based RT Planning is done whenever indicated.
Brachytherapy:
Radiation therapy means to deliver high dose to the tumour at the same time minimising side effects to normal organs. In such an endeavour the , we introduced Brahcytherapy Unit which delivers HIGH DOSE in LESSER TIME in a SHORT STAY with almost NIL SIDE EFFECTS.
Our specialty is in delivering Image Guided Radiotherapy with cavity applications and Interstitial implants.
Cancers of the cervix, va**na, v***a, esophagus, oral cavity, oropharynx, biliary tract tumors, soft tissue sarcomas and breast come under the scope of Brachytherapy.
Intracavitary, Interstitial and Intraluminal Brachytherapy techniques with high precision and dosage are delivered under image guidance within short time.
Department of Surgical Oncology
The department is adept at handling all types of major and supra major surgeries. It is run by a team of well-qualified and experienced surgical oncologists and surgical gastroenterologists trained from the best cancer centres in the country.

Department of Medical Oncology
Medical Oncology refers to the comprehensive diagnosis and therapeutic treatment of cancerous and non-cancerous tumors through drug combinations and multidisciplinary approaches.
The Department of Medical Oncology at Meenakshi Hospital, Tanjore offers state-of-the-art treatment facilities for patients suffering from Hodgkin’s and Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, multiple myeloma, breast cancer, lung cancer, ovarian cancer, colorectal cancer, hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancers, esophageal cancer, prostatic, urinary bladder, and kidney cancers. The department, in collaboration with radiation oncology, delivers concurrent chemo radiation for head and neck, cervical, esophageal and lung cancers.
Adding to the convenience of patients, the department also offers chemotherapy in Day Care Units with trained staff, open from 9 am to 9 pm. This concept has been welcomed by patients and their caregivers as they can return home the same day, which is also less stressful.
Isolation ward for neutropenia patients with barrier nursing facilities and emergency services are available round the clock.
