A Surprising New Tool for Menopause Relief
A groundbreaking survey from the Kinsey Institute suggests that many women are finding surprising and significant relief from challenging menopause symptoms through a non-traditional self-care method: ma********on. While lifestyle adjustments, diet, and hormone therapy are widely discussed, self-pleasure is rarely brought up in clinical settings. However, participants who used ma********on for symptom management rated it highly—with perimenopausal women giving it an average score of 4.35 out of 5, similar to partnered s*x and even hormone therapy.
The research indicates that self-pleasure may be a low-cost, easily accessible way to combat several disruptive symptoms. Nearly one in five perimenopausal and postmenopausal women reported symptom improvements after ma********on. The most commonly cited benefits included relief from mood swings, sleep disruption, and irritability. Additionally, ma********on is known to increase ge***al blood flow, which can help manage genitourinary symptoms like va**nal dryness and discomfort, making it a valuable addition to a holistic approach to menopausal health.
This study highlights a major gap in women's healthcare: only a small percentage of women have ever discussed ma********on with a healthcare provider. Yet, more than half of the women surveyed stated they would be willing to try it if a clinician recommended it. The findings underscore the critical need for doctors and healthcare providers to acknowledge the positive role s*xual well-being, including ma********on, can play in managing menopause. It’s time for open conversation and for women to feel empowered to explore all available options for improving their quality of life during this transition.
