The Union of Treatment and Rehabilitation of Users for Social Transformation (U-TRUST) has expressed its utmost gratitude to the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur for approving a free drug treatment cm de-addiction programme of 193 drug users in the set up of established TRUST Centres registered under the department.
Addressing media persons in the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, the president of U-TRUST, Sagolshem Herojit Singh revealed that the state will be witnessing the biggest ever free drug treatment programme in the history of the state and if the upcoming treatment model succeeded it will be a benchmark that can be set as an example for future drug treatment response.
He further stated that the sanctioning of the programme shows the state government’s commitment and concern about the drug users community particularly those from economically backward and financially unsound families.
He also urged TRUST Centres for successful conduct of the programme so that the same can be emulated on a consistent basis.
He also call upon all cornered to refrain from ill treatment of drug users and observed that since drug use is considered a public health issue, the matter needs to be dealt scrupulously instead of forcing or intimidating drug users.
He also revelaed that in the upcoming free detox cm de-addiction programme, altogether 193 drug users shall be availed free treatment for 45 days in 55 registered TRUST Centres irrespective of the mode of substance use. The intake will be based in accordance with what’s is defined in the Manipur State Policy on Psychoactive Substances Act 2019 encompassing alcohol and orher substances. He further appealed all state government's health related departments to conduct such programs apart from the social welfare department.
The U-TRUST also expressed its thankfulness and appreciation to Ngangom Uttam , director department of Social Welfare department of Manipur for guidance and inputs in materialising the upcoming programme. Further, the Union extends its heartfelt gratitude to Pramot Singh of Meitei Leepun for his continuous support in the field of drug use response particularly in the process of the formulation of a state specific guidelines for TRUST Centres and the organizing of the upcoming free drug detox cm de addiction programme.
