Pain and Palliative Care Society, Thrissur A registered charitable society that caters to the care and support of patients suffering from life threatening illness. We also care for the caregivers

In compassionate patient care for past 19 years !!! We strive to improve the quality of life of patients. We consider it the right of every person to live and die with dignity and our responsibility to support them . We make an effort to address their physical, psycho- social and spiritual needs . We have an OP dept where about 40 patients visit on an average daily basis. Doctors' care , free medicines, listening and counselling support is provided there . Home care is planned and the teams visit around 50 patients in their homes in a week . There is a 10 bedded IP, where we offer symptom care, respite care and terminal care without ICU or ventilator. Physiotherapy unit that functions 5 days a week is an effort to improve quality of life with the service of a physiotherapist and occupational therapist. Our Help Desk assist the patient to avail the social security measures offered by the Government. Our Nationally acclaimed Institute of Palliative care offers training to Doctors, nurses , volunteers, social workers and students .We also train and rehabilitate the patients and families. We raise our funds through public donations from individuals and organisations . All services are free of cost to the patients. Our strength is our team of volunteers that come upto more than 60 including 14 doctors. Our Hospice and Day Care Centre is under construction in Olarikkara. The faculty development program (FREE) launched by Pallium India empowers medical college faculty and adjunct faculty to teach competency based modules of palliative care as specified by the National Medical Council, to MBBS students across the nation.

Dr Elisabeth Kübler-Ross (1926-2004) was a Swiss-American psychiatrist and pioneer in the study of death and dying, and the author of several books. She revolutionized the way society approached end-of-life care and bereavement support. In her internationally best-selling book, 'On Death and Dying', she first discussed her theory of the five stages of grief, also known as the "Kübler-Ross model".
