Pharmaceutical companies world over are working hard to amass wealth and they don't have any medical ethics and for that doctors are a tool. It's not a phenomenon unique to India.
I think we could spare less than 10% doctors from this group, who work hard to the welfare of the society. Rest of the 90 % doctors, only 10 % prescribe top brands, with prices multiple times higer than Jan Oushadhi medicines.
I don't think doctors are innocent of the huge profit margin the companies make and prescribing these drugs to the patients only considering the quality.
Besides numerous new generation molecules are flooding the market with patent protection, hence they don't have any cheaper alternatives. That 90 % doctors prefer these molecules ignoring the time tested old generation drugs which are cheaper and with lesser side effects.
