“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”
Just 1 year ago I was curious about an upcoming branch of Gynaecology called COSMETIC GYNAECOLOGY. I got in touch with my teacher from my post-graduate days at Manipal, Dr Rupinder Kaur Ruprai (now based in Dubai) regarding possible courses regarding the same. Initially, I thought these courses were only done in places outside India.
However, Dr Rupinder suggested I contact Dr Sejal Ajmera in Mumbai who is one of the pioneers of COSMETIC GYNAECOLOGY in India. With a lot of hesitation, I contacted Dr Sejal regarding her course and enquired regarding her training schedule. It was a wonderful experience learning an absolutely new thing from a pioneer in her field who took on the “jeering & sneering” of the whole society and sadly the medical community too, to start from scratch in a field in India which had untapped potential.
After my training, I came to know that the term COSMETIC GYNAECOLOGY is a misnomer. It should be called FUNCTIONAL & AESTHETIC GYNAECOLOGY as “Aesthetic” is only a part of the process.
My journey did not end here. My “Preceptorship” course was further enhanced by additional hours of training. Now I’m proud to say that I have a “DIPLOMA IN AESTHETIC & FUNCTIONAL GYNAECOLOGY” from Indian Academy of Vaginal Aesthetics (IAVA).
Also, I had the proud privilege to share the stage with stalwarts in their field at IAVA WORLD CONGRESS held in Mumbai in November 2023. Being a part of the Scientific and Organising Committee for IAVA CONGRESS opened my mind (and my doors) to many great friends with greater minds who want to push their boundaries with their knowledge.
My journey in this field has just begun. I am seeking the blessings of my Gurus to take further steps so that I can make this branch a household name in the North Eastern part of India.
