The District Hospital in Tumkur is an ancient one, it is one of the oldest large hospitals in the state of Karnataka. Works under Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services, Karnataka. Having been established a year after independence on 30th January 1948 by the then Maharaja of Mysore Sri Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar. The inauguration stone that marked the occasion
lies within the walls outside the office of the District Surgeon even today. The hospital caters to over 2 million people in Tumkur district, currently it is a 300 bedded hospital that sees over 1000 people every day. It provides round the clock facilities of Emergency Room, N-ICU & Labor Wards. It also comprises of 'Government School of Nursing Tumkur' which is a co-educational institution, takes in around 50 nursing students each year. Dr Rajini (MBBS, DCH) is currently the District Surgeon of Tumkur.
