ओस्टोजेनेसिस इम्पेर्फेक्टा (osteogenesis imperfecta) बीमारी एक अभिशाप से कम नहीं है
इस जन्मजात बीमारी के कारण मरीज की हड्डियाँ इतनी कमजोर होती है कि मामूली सी चोट से फ्रैक्चर होते रहते है और हड्डियों में टेढ़ापन आने लगता है। धीरे धीरे मरीज चलने में असक्षम हो जाते है। क्यूंकि इस बीमारी के ऑपरेशन्स की सुविधा हर जगह उपलब्ध नहीं होती है और ऑपरेशन्स महंगे होने के साथ साथ रिस्की भी होते है, कई मरीज इसका उपचार नहीं करवा पाते है।
झारखण्ड से आया ये 18 वर्षीय बालक भी इसी बीमारी से ग्रसित था और पिछले 10 सालो से बिना सहारे से चल नहीं पा रहा था। उदयपुर में दोनों पैरों की चारो बड़ी हड्डियों के चार मेजर ऑपरेशन्स के बाद अब मरीज के दोनों पैर सीधे हो गए है। मरीज और डॉक्टर दोनों आशावत है कि मरीज जल्द ही अपने पैरो पर खड़ा हो कर चलने लगेगा और अपनी पढ़ाई पूरी करने का सपना पूरा कर पायेगा।

हड्डियों का इन्फेक्शन (osteomyelitis) एक जटिल समस्या है जिसका शुरुआती लक्षण हड्डी से पस आना होता है। उपयुक्त उपचार के आभाव में ये इन्फेक्शन बढ़ कर पूरी हड्डी को ख़राब कर सकता है जिसके कारण हड्डी से लगातार पस बहना (chronic osteomyelitis), फ्रैक्चर, हाथ-पैर का तिरछापन (deformity) या छोटापन (shortening) आदि हो सकते है।
प्रस्तुत केस एक १२ साल के बालक का है। जांघ की हड्डी (femur bone) के दो साल से ठीक नहीं हो पा रहे इन्फेक्शन (chronic osteomyelitis) के कारण हड्डी से पस आता था और फ्रैक्चर हो गयी थी। ईलिज़ारोव तकनीक द्वारा मरीज का इलाज किया गया जिसमे ख़राब हो चुके बोन के सेग्मेंट्स को हटाया गया और फिर ईलिज़ारोव फ्रेम से ९ सेंटीमीटर की नयी बोन बनायीं गयी। एक साल चले इस ट्रीटमेंट के बाद मरीज के पैर का फ्रैक्चर जुड़ चूका है, पैर की लम्बाई बराबर हो गयी है और हड्डी का इन्फेक्शन पूरी तरह से खत्म हो गया है।

Sometimes bone fractures get infected and fail to unite, a condition called as infected non-unions. Of all limb fractures, infected non-unions of distal femur are very difficult to manage. The shared case is one of such cases managed by Ilizarov’s technique. At the end of treatment the patient was able to resume his pre-injury occupational status.

"Genu valgum, commonly called "knock-knee", is a condition in which the knees angle in and touch each other when the legs are straightened. In causes difficulty in walking and running and leads to early arthritis of the knee joints. In addition, this deformity is a cosmetic problem as well.
In this case, both legs were operated upon simultaneously. No plaster or cast was required. Patient was allowed to walk after just three weeks and in two months she had gained full range of motion at knee joints.
