The amount of cancer cases have been on rise over the past decade and unfortunately, a lot of them are being detected a little late. Cancer can get to anyone, but what if we want to stay a step ahead of cancer and detect it early? What if we truly actually take up “time is life” as the golden rule in the fight against cancer?

One afternoon, Rajendra, a middle-aged man, noticed his vision becoming blurry and felt a sudden loss of balance. He had no history of stroke, but a long-standing history of hypertension. He was rushed to the Zydus Emergency, where an urgent MRI confirmed an acute stroke, and fortunately, he had arrived within the golden hour, which refers to the first 60 minutes after stroke symptoms begin, during which treatment is most effective. However, the window for effective treatment can extend up to 4.5 hours for some patients.

Dr. Hetal Parikh, Senior Neurologist, was immediately consulted, and thrombolytic therapy was started without delay. Within just 24 hours, his vision returned, and he was able to walk again. His bloodwork during his stay also revealed an undiagnosed thyroid disorder.

During a stroke, brain cells die rapidly. It’s estimated that 1.9 million neurons die every minute when a stroke goes untreated.
One of the most important steps in stroke treatment is recognizing the symptoms quickly.

Tumors, also called neoplasms, are masses of cells that can either be benign or cancerous. Mediastinal tumors are growths that form in the area of the chest between your lungs. The mediastinum encloses your heart, aorta, esophagus, thymus, thyroid, trachea, lymph nodes, and nerves, deeming its location extremely crucial.
Recently, a 39-year-old man was rushed to our Emergency department with complaints of severe breathing difficulty and stridor, an abnormal, high-pitched, musical breathing sound caused by a blockage in the throat or voice box, most often heard during breathing. He was soon placed under the care of Dr. Avadh Vithlani and Dr. Jitendra Kotadiya, Sr. Pulmonologists, who performed the necessary interventions to ease his condition.
The results of the EBUS-TBNA (endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration) indicated a lymphomatous growth, and the mass was reduced with chemotherapy. A metallic Y-stent was placed in his airway using bronchoscopy to relieve the pressure on his trachea. The patient began recovering and was discharged within just 5 days.
Kudos to the Interventional Pulmonology team for breezing through this case.
