📚Are we raising a generation that finds books boring?
With screens taking over and storytime fading out, today’s parenting habits may be unknowingly dimming our kids’ love for reading and writing.🦋

🧠Studies show children who aren’t read to regularly miss
out on over a million words by age 5.
✍️And when reading feels like a chore, writing soon follows.
It’s not too late. Just 15 minutes of reading a day can shape curious minds, strong writers, and deep thinkers.

✨Let’s bring back bedtime stories.
Let’s raise readers - not just scrollers.

👇Do you read with your child? Tell us how you make it fun!

📚BOOK RECOMMENDATION
~ The Anxious Generation – Jonathan Haidt

As a counsellor and a parent guide, this book really hit home for me.❗️❗️

Haidt talks about something I see all the time—why are kids today more anxious, more overwhelmed, and struggling so much with their mental health? 😔 He breaks it down so clearly: we’ve moved from a childhood full of play and face-to-face time to one dominated by screens and social media 📱—and it’s showing.

But this isn’t just a doom-and-gloom kind of read. It’s thoughtful, well-researched, and packed with hope ✨. Haidt doesn’t just highlight the problem—he offers real, doable solutions for parents, educators, and anyone working with kids 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦📚.

If you care about this generation’s well-being (and I know many of us do), I highly recommend picking this one up 📖. It’s eye-opening, empowering, and honestly, a must-read for our times.

Let’s help kids reconnect—with the world, with others, and most importantly, with themselves ❤️🌍.

A well-behaved child isn’t always okay. 💔

Children aren’t born obedient—they’re born expressive, wild, and real. Obedience often comes when being real feels risky. When their big feelings push you away, they learn to silence themselves just to feel safe.

Let’s raise kids who feel seen, heard, and valued—not just “good.” Because respect isn’t fear. Respect is connection. 💛

A dad, his younger self and his child, all trying to move past old authoritarian conditioning and reactivity. 👶👨👴

The recognition that fathers play such an important role is a recent development. 👨‍👧👨‍👦👨‍👧‍👦👨‍👨‍👧👨‍👧‍👧👨‍👩‍👧‍👦👨‍👩‍👦

The focus for many years has mainly been on mothers and how they affect their children’s physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.❤️‍🩹

🫥Fathers could be aloof or supportive, harsh in judgement or fair, affectionate or uncommunicative. Regardless, little thought or attention was given to the effect these differences would have on us children.🫡

The effects of childhood trauma can last well into adulthood. Trauma can impact future relationships and lead to other issues like aggression and low self-esteem.🤕😢

Often, a boy who continuously faces verbal abuse will believe that this behavior is normal and acceptable for men. 🤐🤬

The importance of fathers as emotional, intellectual and spiritual nurturers has been largely neglected for too long. Maybe if it had not been, we’d be at a more progressed stage of overcoming emotional distress.🧘‍♂️🧘❗️💕❤️💙💛

~ “Mom! Dad! All I need is for you to give me a warm hug right now. Trust me, I'll be fine.” - your little baby.

Nothing soothes the cries of a child more quickly than a warm hug from an adult who loves them. In addition, hugs are the most effective way to end a temper tantrum.

No, it’s not always as simple as that, but many times it is.

When we can hold space for our boys to express their tears, we show them that their experience of their emotions is valid – they are seen, heard and accepted just as they are.
We show them that we understand having emotions and needing to express them is a normal part of being human.

Kids that feel safe to express their feelings are better equipped to process that experience, recover, and see a way to move forward.

Emotions that are rejected, resisted, bottled up and unprocessed are the basis of trauma; manifesting later as anger and resentment. Crying is more than okay, healthy emotional expression is a signature of resilience.

Temper tantrums can be frustrating for any parent. But instead of looking at them as disasters, treat tantrums as opportunities to connect .
—> 5 min of connect VS. 50 min of disconnect. Make a choice!

-Keep your cool when responding to a tantrum.
-Don't complicate the problem with your own frustration or anger.
-Remind yourself that your job is helping your child learn to calm down. So you need to be calm too.

Do not worry about what others will say when they see your kid behaving a certain way.
You need to protect your child. Don’t over stress yourself to prove it to others that you are a great dad or mum!
You are doing your best already. Don’t let others’ expectations fool you.

We know it’s easier said than done, but one can always try :)
