Power naps (Siesta) are short naps taken during the daytime, usually between 10 to 20 minutes which helps in boosting alertness and re-energizing the body. They are not a replacement for a full night’s sleep, but rather a quick reset after morning or midday work.

A power nap works best when:
*You have already completed a proper night’s sleep (7–9 hours)
*You nap in the early afternoon
*You keep it short (not longer than 20–30 minutes), to avoid deep-sleep grogginess

It is recommended to keep at least a 6–8 hour gap between your power nap and your main night sleep, so it doesn’t disturb your natural sleep cycle.

Our body’s natural sleep rhythm is regulated by melatonin, a hormone that helps induce sleep. Melatonin levels are highest at night and lowest during the day, which is why night sleep tends to be deeper and more restorative. So saying that breaking your sleep and resting in the afternoon is equally fine is not entirely true.

However, if your lifestyle or work schedule doesn’t allow proper night sleep, getting enough total sleep, regardless of timing, is still important for your health. Consistency and adequate rest matter a lot, though your body will always function best when aligned with its natural rhythm.

We should never continue in jobs that constantly make us sacrifice our personal time or pushes us beyond our healthy limits. Overworking can take a serious toll on both our physical and mental health, often aggravating lifestyle diseases.

It’s essential to give equal importance to other aspects of life — spending quality time with family and friends, caring for oneself, and staying socially connected. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance isn’t just a choice; it’s a necessity for long-term well-being. Always remember to keep this balance in mind.

One of the main reasons many young people develop lifestyle diseases today is improper work life balance.
Constant stress, irregular sleep, unhealthy eating habits, and sedentary routines with lack of exercises contribute to conditions like diabetes, hypertension, obesity, high cholesterol, heart attacks and even stroke.

To lead a healthier and happier life, it’s important to maintain a proper balance between different aspects of life. Ideally, one should give time and attention to five key aspects:

*Personal life – self-care, rest, hobbies, and mental well-being.
*Professional life – career growth and job satisfaction without burnout.
*Family life – nurturing bonds with loved ones.
*Friendship circle – maintaining emotional support, happiness and social connection.
*Social life – engaging with the community and enjoying meaningful interactions.

Finding the right balance among these helps reduce stress, improve emotional health, and control lifestyle-related diseases in the long run.

Children today often find it difficult to listen to or obey their parents, and one of the major contributing factors is their increasing screen time and mobile dependency. With digital devices becoming an inseparable part of our lives, it’s not practical to completely take them away as technology is now essential for learning, communication, and even creativity.

However, excessive exposure to screens has been linked to issues such as reduced attention span, behavioural changes, sleep disturbances, and even symptoms resembling Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). What was once overlooked in the past has now become a growing concern, visible even in toddlers.

To address these challenges, schools should ensure the presence of qualified counsellors who can guide students and parents on maintaining a healthy balance. Educating children about responsible screen use and encouraging activities beyond gadgets can make a significant difference. A balanced, mindful, and judicious approach to technology is the need of the hour.
