Anti-Ragging Week Celebrations at Santhigiri Siddha Medical College
Santhigiri Siddha Medical College observed Anti-Ragging Week with a series of impactful events organized by the Anti-Ragging Cell, focusing on raising awareness about the serious implications of ragging in educational institutions.
The inaugural session featured Mr. P.R. Rahul, Sub Inspector of Pothencode Police Station, who spoke on the legal and social consequences of ragging. He stressed the importance of understanding anti-ragging laws and the accountability of both individuals and institutions in preventing such acts.
Following this, Retired District Sessions Judge Mr. Murali Sreedhar delivered an insightful talk on the legal provisions applicable to ragging. He explained how sections of the Indian Penal Code—such as Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 306 (abetment to su***de), and Section 506 (criminal intimidation)—can be invoked depending on the severity of the offence. His session aimed to equip students with a clear understanding of the legal framework, reinforcing the need for a respectful and safe learning environment.
The event was chaired by Principal Prof. Dr. Neelavathi, MD (Siddha), PhD, with Vice Principal Prof. Dr. P. Hariharan and faculty members of the Anti-Ragging Committee—Dr. G. Mohanambigai, Dr. J. Ninapriya, and Dr. L. Sivavenkatesh—actively participating. Their presence underscored the institution’s commitment to a harassment-free campus.
As part of the week-long programme, a poster competition was held to engage students creatively in promoting the anti-ragging message. Nandana Krishna (Final Year BSMS) won first place, followed by Lakshmi Ramachandran in second place and Manasa S. Kumar (First Year) in third place.
Through these activities, the college fostered a strong culture of respect, safety, and mutual support. The active involvement of faculty and students demonstrated a united stand against ragging, ensuring a nurturing academic atmosphere for all.
