When Rekha first experienced swelling of her legs she wasn’t sure of the cause and as her symptoms worsened, she became increasingly self-conscious of her condition. Over 7 years, the chronic swelling and open wounds led to recurrent infections with the symptoms severely impacting her mobility, daily activities, and overall quality of life.

In October 2025, Rekha was diagnosed with lymphatic filariasis (LF) - a painful and chronic condition that can lead to severe disability and social stigma. At a Lepra Referral Centre, Rekha was shown self-care techniques to manage her symptoms and was provided with a self-care kit including antiseptic, bandages and hygiene essentials. Crucially, she received a pair of custom-made protective footwear which have been pivotal for Rekha's recovery.

As part of , LEPRA Society conducted awareness camps across multiple states under our HIV Projects, reaching communities that often remain unheard. Through these camps, we shared vital information on HIV prevention, the importance of regular testing, and the truth that HIV is treatable and manageable with timely care.

Our teams engaged with people one-on-one, addressed doubts, encouraged testing, and reminded them that stigma hurts, but support heals. We also provided donations and essential materials to individuals and families in need, reinforcing our commitment to ensuring no one is left behind.

Today, we stand with every person living with HIV.
We honour their strength.
We continue our mission to spread awareness, fight stigma, and build compassionate communities.

Support Group Meeting – Vijayanagaram Referral Centre

Today’s gathering at the Referral Centre was more than just a meeting it was a circle of hope, healing, and togetherness.

We spoke openly with our support group members about a message that changes lives: Leprosy is completely curable.

Many shared their fears, doubts, and the stigma they still face in their communities. We listened with empathy, reminded them that their condition does not define who they are.

Our team walked them through:
✔️ The importance of completing MDT treatment
✔️ Care for ulcers and prevention of disabilities
✔️ Early detection signs for themselves and family members
✔️ Emotional support systems and counselling
✔️ How LEPRA Society is always just a call away for help, treatment, or guidance

Small conversations turned into powerful moments of reassurance. A few members even shared how their lives have changed after starting treatment, inspiring others who are still struggling with fear or self-doubt.

Together, we are breaking myths, reducing stigma, and rebuilding confidence.

From Pain to Possibility: Ayesha’s Journey Back to Life

For a long time, Ayesha lived with silent suffering.
When patches appeared on her skin, and she began losing sensation in her feet, she visited several private hospitals hoping for answers, hoping for relief.

But instead of improvement, her condition worsened.

Her wounds deepened.
Walking became painful.
Daily chores became impossible.
And fear slowly replaced hope.

Like many, Ayesha didn’t know she was living with leprosy, a curable disease, yet one that is often misunderstood, stigmatised, and ignored.

One day, someone in her community told her about LEPRA Society. With hesitation and courage, she walked through our doors… and that changed everything.

Our team diagnosed her correctly, began timely treatment, offered ulcer care, and provided custom Micro Cellular Rubber (MCR) footwear to protect her feet. Slowly, step by step, Ayesha began to heal physically and emotionally.

Today, she is able to walk without fear.
She manages her daily activities again.
And she carries a renewed sense of dignity and hope.

There are still many people like Ayesha who continue to suffer in silence because of stigma and lack of access to the right care.

National Level Physiotherapy Training Camp at Sonepur, Odisha.

National Level Physiotherapy Training Camp was inaugurated on 17 November at Sonepur LEPRA Society, bringing together 70 participants from 11 states including Bihar, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Assam, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

The camp was inaugurated by Gorekhanath Sahu, Odisha State Ambassador, who lit the ceremonial lamp.
Key dignitaries Prashant Kumar Naik, CEO of LEPRA Society, Rajnikant Singh, Dr. Rituparna Hota and Kameswar Rao led the training sessions, with active support from Amrita Singh, Satish Chaudhary and Netranand Sahu.

This 3-day residential training (17–19 November) is designed to provide specialised physiotherapy support for persons affected by leprosy, those recovered, and individuals currently undergoing treatment. Sessions are being held at Sonepur LEPRA Society and Mahanadi Netra Chikitsalaya - LEPRA Society.
The community has expressed happiness and pride that such an important National-Level camp is being hosted in Subarnapur district

Happy Children’s Day!

This Children’s Day, let’s spread awareness and compassion.
Leprosy is curable just like many other diseases when detected early and treated with proper medical care.

Leprosy is caused by Mycobacterium leprae and is least contagious. With effective Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT) available worldwide, early diagnosis ensures complete cure and prevents disability.

Let’s work together to end stigma, support affected families, and ensure every child grows up in a society filled with empathy, knowledge, and equal opportunities.

People affected by leprosy often lose sensation in their feet, which means they may not feel pain from small cuts, burns, or injuries. Without proper care, these unnoticed wounds can turn into cracks or ulcers, leading to serious infections or even disability.

By soaking the feet, cleaning gently with a pumice stone, applying oil, and wearing (Micro Cellular Rubber) slippers, we keep the skin soft, improve blood circulation, and prevent damage.

Regular foot care is a simple but powerful step to protect mobility, health, and confidence.

Restoring Sight, Renewing Hope under "Project Punarjanam"

At LEPRA Society, we believe that everyone deserves the gift of clear vision. As part of our ongoing Project Punarjanam – Eye Care Interventions for Leprosy-Affected Persons, our dedicated team from Mahanadi Netra Chikitsalaya - LEPRA Society (MNC) reached out to Nuapali, Santarapali, and Hatibari leprosy colonies in Sambalpur district, Odisha, to provide need-based eye care services.

Many leprosy-affected persons continue to struggle silently with preventable blindness. Restoring their sight is not just about treatment it’s about restoring dignity, confidence, and independence.

During this visit, the team screened 57 residents, provided free medicines and spectacles, and referred those in need for surgical intervention. On 3rd November, in the first phase, 13 cataract eyes were successfully operated on restoring lost vision and bringing light back into people’s lives.
