Here's an overview of RCT (Root Canal Treatment):

What is RCT?

Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is a dental procedure to remove infected or damaged tissue from inside a tooth. It's also known as endodontic treatment.

Why is RCT necessary?

RCT is necessary when:

1. Tooth decay: Bacteria infect the pulp (soft tissue inside the tooth).
2. Tooth damage: A crack or break allows bacteria to enter the pulp.
3. Abscess: A pocket of pus forms at the tip of the root, causing pain and swelling.

The RCT process:
Anesthesia: Local anesthesia numbs the tooth and surrounding area.

Access: The dentist makes an opening in the tooth to access the pulp chamber.

Removal of infected tissue: Special files (reamers) remove the infected pulp tissue.

Cleaning and shaping: The canal is cleaned, shaped, and prepared for filling.

Filling: A biocompatible material (gutta-percha) fills the cleaned canal.

Sealing: The tooth is sealed with a filling or crown to prevent further infection.

Benefits of RCT:

Relieves pain: RCT eliminates pain caused by infected pulp tissue.

Saves the tooth: RCT helps preserve the natural tooth, avoiding extraction.

Prevents further infection: RCT prevents the spread of infection to surrounding teeth and tissues.

Post-RCT care:

Follow-up appointments: Schedule follow-up appointments to ensure the tooth is healing properly.

Avoid chewing: Avoid chewing on the treated tooth until it's fully restored with a crown or filling.

Maintain good oral hygiene: Brush and floss regularly to prevent further oral health issues.

By understanding the RCT process and its benefits, you'll be better equipped to make informed decisions about your dental health.
