As pediatricians, we often hear many beliefs about baby massage. Let’s clear them up for parents

❌ MYTH 1: “Stronger massage makes baby’s bones stronger.”
✅ FACT: Baby bones grow with nutrition, vitamin D, and natural development — not forceful massage.
👉 Massage should always be gentle.

❌ MYTH 2: “Mustard oil is best because it’s traditional.”
✅ FACT: Mustard oil can irritate delicate skin.
✔️ Prefer cold-pressed coconut oil or sunflower oil (unscented).

❌ MYTH 3: “Daily long massage is compulsory.”
✅ FACT: Quality matters more than duration.
10–15 minutes of calm, loving touch is enough.

❌ MYTH 4: “Massage will reshape baby’s head or legs.”
✅ FACT: Head shape and leg alignment improve naturally with growth and positioning — not by pressing or pulling.

❌ MYTH 5: “Massage during fever helps baby recover faster.”
✅ FACT: Avoid massage when baby has fever, infection, or skin rashes.

The Truth About Baby Massage
✔️ Builds bonding
✔️ Improves sleep
✔️ Soothes colic
✔️ Supports healthy skin
✔️ Promotes relaxation
Massage is about connection, comfort, and care — not pressure.

❄️ Winter Care Tips for Children

👶 Layer Smartly
Dress children in layers, not heavy single clothing. It keeps them warm and allows easy adjustment indoors.

🧣 Protect Extremities
Cover ears, hands, feet, and neck properly—these lose heat the fastest.

💧 Don’t Skip Hydration
Children feel less thirsty in winter, but they still need adequate water and warm fluids.

🧴 Care for Skin & Lips
Cold weather dries skin—use a gentle moisturizer and lip balm daily.

🍊 Boost Immunity Naturally
Include seasonal fruits, vegetables, nuts, and warm home-cooked food to strengthen immunity.

😴 Ensure Adequate Sleep
Good sleep helps children fight infections and stay active during winter.

🌬️ Ventilation Matters
Keep rooms warm but well-ventilated to reduce infections.

🤧 Watch for Early Illness Signs
Runny nose, cough, poor feeding, or lethargy—early care prevents complications.

✨ Warmth + Nutrition + Love = Healthy Winter for Kids

Child Tantrums: DOs & DON’Ts 🌈

✅ DOs

Stay calm — your child borrows your emotions

Acknowledge feelings: “I see you’re upset”

Get down to their level and speak gently

Offer simple choices (red cup or blue cup?)

Be consistent with rules and routines

Praise positive behavior after the storm passes

❌ DON’Ts

Don’t shout or threaten

Don’t give in just to stop the tantrum

Don’t label the child as “bad” or “naughty”

Don’t argue or lecture during the meltdown

Don’t compare with other children

✨ Remember: Tantrums are not misbehavior — they are a child’s way of saying “I’m overwhelmed.”

🌟 Why Children Should Avoid Cold Drinks ❌🥤

As a Pediatrician, I see many kids consuming sugary cold drinks daily — and the long-term effects are worrying. Here’s why we should reduce or stop them:

🚫 ❶ High Sugar = Obesity & Diabetes Risk
Even one can may contain 10–12 teaspoons of sugar. This leads to weight gain, insulin resistance, and early-onset diabetes.

🦷 ❷ Damages Teeth
Acids + sugar erode enamel, causing cavities at a very young age.

🫁 ❸ Weakens Immunity
Regular intake reduces appetite for healthy foods and affects the child’s natural immune response.

🧠 ❹ Affects Concentration & Behavior
Sugar spikes → hyperactivity → sudden energy crash, impacting school performance.

🦴 ❺ Poor Bone Health
Phosphoric acid in many drinks may reduce calcium absorption—affecting bone growth.

💤 ❻ Sleep Disturbance
Many sodas contain caffeine, leading to poor sleep, irritability, and fatigue.

💛 Healthy Alternatives
✔ Fresh fruit juices
✔ Lemon water
✔ Coconut water
✔ Homemade buttermilk
✔ Plain water — the best!

Let’s choose smarter drinks for healthier kids. 🌱

Harmful Effects of Janamghutti in Newborns and Infants.

1.Risk of Infection
• Many preparations are not sterile and can be contaminated with harmful bacteria or fungi.
• Reported infections include sepsis, diarrhea, and intestinal infections in neonates.

2. Toxic Ingredients
• Some herbal or traditional ghuttis contain ingredients like o***m derivatives, alcohol, or heavy metals (lead, mercury, arsenic).
• These can cause:
o Lethargy and poor feeding
o Respiratory depression
o Developmental delay
o Liver and kidney damage

🚫 3. Interference with Exclusive Breastfeeding
• Giving janamghutti reduces breast milk intake, leading to:
o Dehydration
o Poor weight gain
o Loss of protection from breast milk’s antibodies

💩 4. Gastrointestinal Upset
• May cause vomiting, colic, constipation, or diarrhea.
• The sugar or honey content may alter the infant’s gut flora, increasing risk of infections like infant botulism (if honey is present)
🧠 5. Delayed Development
• Chronic use of sedative or toxic herbal preparations may cause neurological impairment or growth failure.

⚠️ 6. No Proven Benefit
• There is no scientific evidence that janamghutti aids digestion, relieves colic, or improves immunity.
• The Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) and WHO both advise exclusive breastfeeding and no prelacteal feeds or herbal drops.

The Problem
Excessive screen time in early childhood can mimic autism-like symptoms — delayed speech, poor eye contact, hyperactivity, tantrums, and difficulty in social interaction. This condition is often called “Virtual Autism.”

💡 The Solution
✅ Limit screen time, especially under 2 years of age
✅ Encourage real play, outdoor activities & social interaction
✅ Talk, sing, read, and spend quality time with your child
✅ Create a healthy routine with balanced sleep, nutrition & play
✅ If concerns persist — consult a pediatrician or child development specialist early

👨‍👩‍👧 Working Parents’ Guide: Reduce Kids’ Screen Time

1️⃣ Plan Ahead – Set screen-free times (meals, bedtime, family hours).
2️⃣ Create a Routine – Fixed playtime, study time, storytime = fewer demands for gadgets.
3️⃣ Use Alternatives – Keep puzzles, coloring, building blocks, and books handy.
4️⃣ Outdoor First – Encourage park visits, cycling, or simple garden play after school.
5️⃣ Quality over Quantity – If screens are needed, choose educational content and co-view.
6️⃣ Be a Role Model – Kids copy parents — limit your own phone use when with them.
7️⃣ Weekend Bonding – Family games, cooking together, or short trips replace “mobile time.”

🌱 Remember: Children thrive on your attention, not on gadgets. Even 15 minutes of real interaction beats hours of screen time.

Why You Should Rethink Haldi for Wounds
It’s true turmeric has medicinal value, but applying raw haldi on wounds isn’t safe. What most don’t know is:
✨ Hidden Risks You May Not Hear About:
Adulteration: Household turmeric powders may contain starch, lead chromate, or other impurities that can cause toxic reactions when applied to skin.
Delayed Healing: Powder clumps may prevent oxygen flow to the wound — and oxygen is crucial for tissue repair.
Scarring: Sealing a wound with raw powders can increase scarring compared to proper medical dressings
