Feeling truly honoured to be part of an insightful and dynamic Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on Innovations in Gynecologic Cancers at the esteemed Bhailal Amin Cancer Centre on 7th December 2025.

It was a privilege to collaborate with two remarkable experts β€” Dr Devang Patel, Surgical Oncologist, and Dr Pranav Patel, Critical Care Expert. Their clinical experience, perspectives, and commitment to advancing women’s cancer care added immense depth to the discussions.

Ovarian cancer is often called the silent disease because its symptoms can be vague or go unnoticed in the early stages.πŸ’ΉπŸ©Ί

Key risk factors include:

β€’ Age – Women aged 65 and older account for nearly half of all ovarian cancer cases
β€’ Family history – Having an immediate family member (mother, sister, daughter) with ovarian cancer increases your risk
β€’ Medications – Use of estrogen-only hormone therapy after menopause may raise the likelihood
β€’ Obesity – A BMI of 30 or higher is linked to increased risk
β€’ Personal history of other cancers – Especially breast, colorectal, or uterine cancer
β€’ Pregnancy history – Having no children or having a first full-term pregnancy after age 35 can be a contributing factor

NOT all ovarian cancers are the same. There are 3 main types you NEED to know, and understanding them can make a real difference in awareness and early action.

1️⃣ Epithelial ovarian cancer – the most common type, starting on the outer surface of the o***y.
2️⃣ Germ cell ovarian tumors – begin in the cells that form eggs and are more often seen in younger women.
3️⃣ S*x cord-stromal tumors – a rare type that develops in hormone-producing cells and can affect menstrual cycles and hormone levels.

Ovarian cancer is often called the silent disease because symptoms can be subtle and easy to ignore. Learning these basics is a powerful step in listening to your body, trusting your instincts, and seeking medical advice early.

Treating rare and aggressive cancers is never easy, but teamwork, precision, and unwavering commitment can change outcomes. At Bhailal Amin Cancer Centre, our multidisciplinary approach allowed us to manage a challenging case of primary peritoneal serous carcinoma in a 29-year-old mother.🩺

With chemotherapy, followed by complex cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC, our Surgical Oncology team was able to achieve CC-0 clearance β€” meaning no visible cancer remained. Moments like these remind us why we do what we do: to give every patient a real fighting chance and to push the boundaries of advanced cancer care.πŸ’Ή

Lung cancer can develop quietly, but the body often gives early signals. πŸ“

A cough that doesn’t go away, coughing up blood, chest discomfort, breathlessness, sudden weight loss, or frequent lung infections should not be ignored. πŸ˜·πŸ’ΉπŸ€·

These signs may have many causes, but if they last for weeks, consulting a doctor is essential. Early detection improves treatment and saves lives. Listen to your body and act in time.⏰
